It looks like Zeiss has announced a DSLR. :) The sensor will have more MPs than the D800. :) They expect to release in fall 2013. :)

Well dream big the rumor is real and Zeiss is working on high resolution lenses that will deliver like the MF lenses do. That will make a significant difference. Bring your checkbook it isn't going to be cheap.

I'm drooling at the idea. All I want to know is the price. :)

If the lenses are at that price, it's definitely moving into medium format territory. :)

3000 Euro ... a piece.
I have a Zeiss 25/2 and it can register all 36mp. It is impressive for sure.

I'm sure this new line of Zeiss lenses will be exquisite. I love my Zeiss 2/25 too - it's the sharpest lens in my bag - but a no-compromises version would be as sharp in the corners as my 2/25 is in the center. At 4K per lens, I won't be filling up my bag with them, but I may have to buy just one. :)

I'm bummed that they're starting with a 55mm focal length because if I'm only going to buy one, it will need to be at an interesting-to-me focal length. Like something between 21 and 35mm. But, I'll definitely reserve judgment until we start seeing the 55mm reviewed.

I wish Zeiss would release a digital Ikon, since I'll never be able to afford an ERMAHGERD LEICERH.

Leica appears to have adopted the Wal-Mart slogan "Watch out for Falling Prices", 'cause their cool new M240 has a lower price than the M9!

I just read diglloyd's post on the subject, where he says, "One wonders why the Monochrom was developed around the old M9 technology base and not the new M240 technology base." So that they can release an "updated" Monochrom based on the new technology base once the M11 comes out, duh! Anyway. What is this thread!? lol

With these new high-resolution lenses, Canon had better release a high-MP, high-DR camera soon, or they'll be the only ones left without a body to take advantage of the new lenses. Even Sony will likely put their 36MP sensor in a Sony body sooner rather than later...

seems like more megapixels doesn't translate to better pics - why ?

It does when you don't care about frame rate and need to print huge.

some photographers excel with higher IQ systems. others do not.

it's the difference between a blob of green representing grass and blades of grass representing grass. for some photographers detail free blobs of color work best. for the rest of us we want the detail, DR, and color depth because it actually matters.

now for those who prefer warm mushy pixels to work with I am sure you will find lots of company here. for the rest of us IQ matters. a lot.
