DxOMark tested the Nikon D600 and gave it an overall score of 94:

"Nikon’s recently released consumer-oriented full-frame sensor DSLR, the D600, has just gone through DxOMark’s image quality evaluation tests. And the verdict is in: with a DxOMark Overall Score of 94, the D600 is an affordable camera that places a high premium on image quality, as it ranks just behind the top performing Nikon D800 and Nikon D800E. It is also a significant improvement over the high-end professional flagship DSLRs, the Nikon D3X and the Nikon D4."

Well, lot's of D4's strength is not embedding on the sensor rather on the body.
DX0 only care about the sensor so don't use it as a absolute score for everything.
I find the best way to use the score feature is to compare camera of the same class (i.e. 5D3, D800, A99) or ( 60D, D7000, A77) ...etc

Read the actual reviews to understand the scores. DXOmark's test for high ISO is based on specific criteria. I think it's a specific signal to noise ratio achieve at specific ISO. So the score of 2980 ISO means that the signal to noise ratio drops to DXOmark's acceptable range.

5D3 is better than all the Nikon sensor at ultra high ISO >8000 based on the numbers in the review.

So it's a judgement call in term of sensor IQ for the user of these cameras. If you value better IQ at <=ISO3200 and don't shoot much above that, Nikon D600/D800 wins. If you value better IQ at >=ISO6400, 5d3 wins.

Objective measurement is very critical to form your own judgement, but the users have to actually read the testing methods and criteria to understand the test. Not just read the scores.

Still learning

I'm afraid that right now, Canon can't improve their DR. (Not even if their life depended on it.)

If we are lucky, they will catch up to Nikon's (Sony's) current sensor tech, by year 2015.

It's on page 5 :p

But seriously.. this is just amazing performance for a "budget" FX body.

Skill is very important but a fully charged battery is very very important

Or April 2012 (D3200) vs March 2012. Saying they are not from the same time is technically right, but, really, they're from the same time.

Hooray for Sony tech. to get lots of DR from small photosites!
