Or April 2012 (D3200) vs March 2012. Saying they are not from the same time is technically right, but, really, they're from the same time.

Hooray for Sony tech. to get lots of DR from small photosites!

Oh ****, misread 5D3 for 5D2.

heck even D3200 has same DR as 5D3 @81

Same DR? You mean color depth?

Why haven't they tested a 1DX?

I'm afraid that right now, Canon can't improve their DR. (Not even if their life depended on it.)

If we are lucky, they will catch up to Nikon's (Sony's) current sensor tech, by year 2015.

Canon can be back on top if they contract their sensors with Sony. ;)

It took forever for the 5D III to get tested. My guess is that Nikon knows what they have and work with DXO to expedite getting their cameras tested. Likewise Canon knows what they've got and the last thing they want/need is another DXO test result. ;)

I don't think that's true. Sony's crop sensor does get higher score than Canon sensor but not quite as high as Nikon's sensor. Nikon does implement their own technology. It's similar to making microprocessor in a foundry semiconductor company.

Fro example. Apple's iphone/ipad processors are made by Samsung but that does not mean Samsung can make the same processors for themselves.

It takes a long time to make up meaningless numbers that clearly make no sense. But it does give folks something to discuss on the internet, so I can't wait until DxO declares the 1DX sensor to be almost as good as the Nikon D90.

Yes, but real tests of what? That's a question that people who peruse their results should really be asking themselves.

I've actually used several of the lenses and cameras that DxO has rated, and I find that I disagree with their ratings more often than I agree with them. It's not like one or two items are off.....they have a bunch of ratings that do not reflect how the items really compare in my direct experience.

To me that says that whatever they are measuring (and no matter how precisely they measure it), it does not accurately reflect real world results.

I have found other, more reliable reviewers. I have also found that what really matters most is my own opinion, and the best thing to do is often just to try out the camera / lens in question.

Does it matter? DxO scores have never accurately reflected how things work in my experience. What they measure does not line up with what I see, and I have used several of the cameras and lenses they have rated.

Some of their lens ratings are especially hilarious. I honestly do not understand why people continue to link their results when they are so obviously wrong so often.

I actually don't know what they test. Does it matter to me? Not a bit. It's the images that matter. :)

Typical, I think we will be seeing this trend for a while. I remember everyone thinking the 5D3 and 1Dx would be the day Canon caught up with nikons DR.... well that didnt happen lol.
