The aurora was amazing last night.
Here is a short time-lapse

Great video Helge , and great job editing ! Really like the music choice also . Just hope some day i will have a chance to at least see something like that . Tell me , i've always been curious . Did the auroras actually move that fast or did you speed up the video someway ?

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

This evening was pretty amazing. When you are able to see the purple aurora, you know it will be a great night out :)

Thank you. I guess I was a bit lucky with the choice og music :) Just found it at Vimeo.
These images are taken with exposure of 2.0s,0.6s, 1.3s and 1.0s in that order if you see the different clips. So yes it is much faster than normally.
A friend of mine testet out the D4 on high iso: https://vimeo.com/49847218 (external link)
Listen to his comment at 01:43 :)

It is well worth it. We have our kids at the international school here in town. So I have managed everybody to get interested in the Aurora. One teacher from Columbia is very intense when talking about it. And is maybe one of her best reason to stay here :)

I was in Washington State a few years ago and we saw a very faint glow above I had a a 7d with me set it up for several second intervals and it was this same light but it had to be brought out while processing the images. How do you know when something big like that is going to take place or is it a just be ready situation.

There are many websites that gives out info about the aurora activity. We have a local university that posts real-time magnetometer to see the changes. The largest website is spaceweather.com
