Hi,people.
I have a problem with my 350D.My PC (with Windows XP) won't connent to the camera when it's set to PC connection.I can use PTP/Print connection and download photos, but in order to shoot using the EOS Utility the camera has to be set to PC Connection.Whenever I try using this type of connection,a message pops up,sayin that the Windows has found new hardware and needs drivers.I tried to install drivers from the EOS Digital Solution Disk as well as downloaded them from Canon's website, but I can't install them because of some errors : "String PRODUCT_NAME was not found in string table" other similar.Errors on the same type occur when I try do reinstall the whole Canon software using the CD.
I also downloaded a trial version of DSLR Remote Pro,but it too doesn't work.It does say that it's connected to the camera even it PTP/Print mode, but I can't shoot.
So what can I do?

Thanks.

I'm confused. Why are you trying to shoot with the camera connected to the PC in the first place? Have you tried to shoot tethered with Lightroom?

I suggest, go to device manager (in control panel) and find the camera. If it has an exclamation mark, right click and uninstall it. Then reboot (may not be necessary but won't hurt), and reinstall the drivers which you downloaded from the Canon website. Connect camera and check device manager, it should have name / model of camera in there with no exclamation mark.

When you uninstall, if there is a checkbox to remove drivers from computer, make sure it's checked. Windows 7 has this, but I can't remember XP. This should fully remove the bad install and let you reinstall the driver from scratch.

It's possible an install (an automatic windows one or your first attempt) got corrupted and that's why you're getting the bizarre error message. Hard to know for sure without more info. If this works but EOS Utility still doesn't recognize camera, then you may need to uninstall and reinstall that, as well.

Good luck, I'll check this thread to see if you got it working or what else may be going on.

As well, your registry may have gotten corrupted so you can clean it up with CCLeaner (free) from http://www.piriform.com/CCLEANER (external link)

Thanks,guys.
I kept trying to install the driver and succeeded after 10+ attempts.I have no idea why the errors disappeared, but hey,it worked. Now I can shoot easily from both my desktop and laptop.
Aressem,I just want to shoot timelapses and nighttime long exposures,so I decided to use my laptop as a remote, intervalometer and hard drive.
