Time and time again, Canon disappoints in some significant area that matters to me. 6D is a poor answer to the D600. The 5Diii maybe, but it's 50% more $$ and lacks pop-up (many say the don't care, I certainly do). Only lately (7D) is Canon getting around to built-in Master flash control - a feature I use frequently enough and Nikon users have had it for years before that.

D600 just looks like everything I want, all in one camera.

Very tempted to dump my whole Canon line-up; or at least enough to fund a D600 + a couple lenses + flash.

Am I missing something? Canon is no slouch but clearly I'll never get a FF Canon I can use for sports, casual family outings, and portraits / events / paid gigs.

Immediately when presented with something new, our stuff we have had seems like trash in comparison. Learn to use what you have to do what you need it to do. If people back in the 70's could photograph the 24hrs of Le Mans with a film camera, certainly you can do sports, casual family outings, events, paid gigs, with a 7D. >.<

Very happy with my 5D3, not feeling inadequate or wanting for anything. Life is good in this Canon household.

I'm almost done on selling my canon stuff and get a D800 as It can work as three cameras: FX (or FF), DX (APS-C) and 1.2x crop (almost APS-H) and allows the use of AF at F8 which none of the newest Canon cameras allow.

I have a 7D right now with a sensor that was stellar at the release time, buying a 6D with a very limited AF and expensive when comparing it to the D600... but as I prefer to have the above options I'm almost done chosing the D800.

the fire sale 5d mk3 seems like a better buy all things considered. Selling all my gear and then not having a 50 1.2 equivalent would be annoying.

That Nikon Noct 58/1.2 is rare and expensive. I paid $3500 for a near mint copy. The good news is it addresses Coma with a hand ground aspherical element and is really quite impressive on a 36mp body wide open. Obviously not the same kind of sharpness found in the slower Zeiss 25/2 but definitely sharp wide open and easy to focus. It's small too. Not the mammoth L sizes seen in the 50L and 85L.

Agreed, that's another big reason why I haven't switched. I really prefer the optics of Canon L glass over Nikon G glass.

If you feel that losing a bunch of money over converting to a system is worth the marginal upgrades you'll get by swapping over to nikons ecosystem. feel free to do so, i respect your ability to do your homework on an item and make an informed decision based on your wants/needs. i obviously own canon, and really have no loyalty to either brand, they both take great pictures.

just bear in mind that you're about to drop all this money on conversion/adoption over an entry level full frame. canon or nikon aside, its an entry level full frame--if you're buying for features, your decision really should be over the 5dIII and d800. personally, i don't feel that the marginal differences between the two systems (on any level) warrant a system switch, but im not rich...

You mean OFFICIALLY.
It has been proved that both 5D3 and 1DX can and will focus very accurate and fast using F/5.6 lenses with teleconverters!

Photography is about GEAR and not talent or practice. Practice won't make you a better photographer. Expensive equipment will. =D

Meh, odds the difference. I handled multiple cameras before buying into Canon, and mostly went with canon because I liked how more of their bodies felt in my hand, and where controls were. A little more. I really don't see the point in paying so much to switch brands, or paying to duplicate things and run with both at the same time (If I was super rich, yeah, I would have multiple copies of both side's lineups so I could loan gear to friends who are thinking of buying their own.)

Aha... and how many are bragging about it? ;) this is the second time someone tells this, the other being with a Kenko TC if I remember it right... unless I see something more "official", on paper, it still goes up to 5.6 only...

5D3 price is dropping pretty fast, give it a few months more and it might be close to what you're willing to spend.
