Flight of the Northern Hawk-Owl

(Photos taken Dec. 23rd) - Finally found this guy after three weeks of it being reported in the area. I went scanning this area at least a dozen times and came away empty every time...I was starting to wonder if Blackburnian's and Gary's photos were fake!

Well they turned out to be true as I spotted this guy sitting in a tree in the very same area as reported. Boy, was I relieved not to have missed out on it!!
The first shot is the Owl taking off after prey, the second, coming back to its perch after being unsuccessful...

I will post a couple of it in the tree at a later time.

Excellent captures Dan. I love both shots with the first being my favourite. Your patience has paid off big time. I have been back in the area 9 or 10 times since I first saw him and no luck. Saw a Snowy in the area today but miles away ( or so it seemed).
I will keep my eye out for your next posting of these spectacular birds. Congratulations

Lovely, many thanks. Until I saw these shots I did not know there was such a bird in North America. We rarely get Snowy Owls in Texas, but never Northern Hawk Owls.

wow Dan those are some spectacular shots I guess I should tell you how jealous I am that you got to see him finally and I still haven't,,, oh well they are awesome shots and I congratulate you for being patient and getting them
