For $2,900, I could fly to Japan and buy it from there, that's just plain ridiculous.

wait a few week, even better wait a couple of months and see if it goes on sale at Christmas

I snagged one the other day without preorder. Just have to scan and watch for any in stock tips. I got mine today. I never thought I would say this, but it is worth the price.

Of course you say that, anyone who just spent $2,300 on a lens will say that. It's in human nature. When you spend a lot of money on something, you are bound to find positives rather than negatives

Well I have been pretty honest with myself in the past. The last lens that gave me this level of satisfaction was the 70-200 II... I have used some awesome glass in the past such as the 35L, 85L, 135L, 300/400L's etc... And they all have special qualities but lack versatility. The 24-70 has a prime look at any FL and has versatility, much like the 70-200. I was skeptical with lensrentals assessment about resolution but I believe it now. I am not trying to hype it up or anything and I wish I had time to post samples earlier today ... At 100% the detail and contrast is off the hook.

I really want to say it may even have higher resolution than my 70-200 II... If not near identical.

I hope to have some great examples Monday night to post when back home after my evening classes.

Hope not. But the review by photozone gave the lens a ho-hum review and was critical on the pricing when they compared it to the old version as well as the new Tamron.

i thought you were one of those wanted to wait and buy after other people tested the lens.

Wait a sec...I thought you were of the opinion that people buying this lens out of the gate were pretty much suckers...change of heart??
