LR3 Import - Won't import all files from card

Never had this problem before (been using LR for years). Anyway, shot my son's baseball game this morning. Came home to import the photos and start working on them. Import seemed to be going alright so I started working on some photos to get some teasers up. Then I noticed it didn't import all of the photos.

Went to the Import area and it's looking like it's treating them as duplicates and will not import them. I tried copying those files to my HD and importing them from there, getting the same problem.

Never seen this before. Anyone got any ideas on how to fix this?

Thanks.

Did you shoot all Raw or all jpeg or a mix?

How many files does LR think are in the folder (Library module, left panel)?

Are all files in the same folder?
Any filters active?

Screenshot of the library module might help.

The easy solution: on all the files that LR thinks are duplicates simply change the name - add an "a" or "x" or something after the number.

Was beating my head against the wall trying to figure this out. Apparently, LR imported these files into a different folder (:::scratching head:::). I have no idea how or why it did this. But, thankfully, I was able to find the files.

I thought I remembered LR allowing you to import duplicates in past versions....

Yeh, one of my pet peeves. The destination selection is not the clearest. In attempting to give you extras and "conveniences" like dated folders and a silly redundancy in places to choose the destination they made it confusing. I always check three times to make sure the files are going where I want them.

It's funny, something similar happened to me last night:)! My Import routine is pretty cut and dried, but somehow I got my Destination subfolder thrown off so my shots showed up in the "parent" folder instead of a subfolder! It was goofy!

OK, I'm confused. I have heard many stories about folks "not being able to find their photos in Lightroom," particularly just after importing them. Maybe I've just been lucky, but this seems nearly impossible to me. In my experience the Library display always defaults to Previous Import upon completing the import process, and there are the photos I just imported. In addition, under Catalog on the left side, Previous Import is one of the categories. If all else fails, I can select All Photographs and set the Added Order option. One of my earliest impressions of Lightroom was that it eliminated the need to think about folders and file names since it gives so many other ways of organizing and finding images.

Anyway, I'm just asking about this because 1. It does seem to be a problem, 2. It might happen to me some day, and/or 3. I might be called on to help out someone else with this. Any thought or comments would be appreciated.

Rimmer, my experience is the same as yours. Even when like I mentioned above I "goofed" on the Import "destination" folder, still the imported photos show up. I don't have a clue as to why some folks are not seeing this default behavior...maybe something lower level (system) is screwing up...?

I always check as well because of this, "feature," in LR. The strangest thing about this is, I only did one import and about 2/3s of the photos went to the correct folder. When I got to the photos I lost while editing, I noticed they weren't there. That's when the fun began.

Never saw it change the destination folder in the middle of an import...

99% of the time, it works as you say, however, it seems LR has a mind of its own every so often. When it does, it gets extremely frustrating.

I can't comment on LR4 as I've not upgraded yet. I'm talking (mainly) about LR3.
