She wanted me to take some pictures for her holiday cards.
I wanted to capture her unserious goofy side.
(It didn't help that she had scars on her face from snowboarding earlier)
I was going for a retro grainy look with the first one.

Looks like some type of cross-processing effect, and I guess you used a really wide lens for this one. In spite of all the standard advice that you should use 70mm or greater for portraits I actually think wide angle portraits work really well too.
