I can`t realy say much about this picture because its just an ordinary shot. I don`t do that kind of photography,if it was landscape or birds/animals for instance i would be able to give you some advice but now,its a bit hard. All in all though (especialy on manual as you said) it seems to me that you are in for a good start. Landscape,always something of interest in the forground and take care of your composition,the rest will take care themselfs. Use of ND Grad filters (like cokin) recomended so you don`t burn out the sky. On a sunny day you can use circular polariser filter for better results,and never leave home without your tripod.
