I have presets for exporting images. I use the Export Location 'Choose folder later'. I set the presets up long ago. Unfortunately, rather than displaying the last used location in the file hierarchy I am always forced to start deep in the bowels of 2010's folder. Can anyone tell me how I can set a better starting location? I realize that it will require a new preset but it is not obvious to me how to get the new folder location set before saving it. I expect there is something very obvious that I am missing, sigh.

OSX or Windows? If OSX: Give Default Folder X (external link) a try.
Otherwise: Rebuild the preset and just choose a different export location, for instance your "Images" folder. (Export location: Specific folder > Choose the top folder in the hierarchy you want)

Thanks, Rene ... not a good or intuitive design ... they need a "Last Used Folder" option or even 'Start With This Folder". Anyway, I guess it will require using a dummy image and deleting it when I've got the presets recreated.

THIS (external link) plugin by Jeffrey Friedl might be of interest.

One defines a starting location with the plugin and use a collection to define the tree hierarchy to where exported images are sent.

Dun, I have about a dozen Export presets for things like Facebook Cover photos and album images as well as some with watermarks and others without. Many of these images are for clients, not for me to publish, so this isn't useful for this issue. I have a couple of Jeffrey's Publishing plug-ins.

Dwight, I don't have a preset with a Destination Folder, it sounds like that's your problem, using a preset with the 2010 folder? I just have my Export dialog set to a "parent" folder and it automatically returns to that folder. I then copy and paste a subfolder name from the particular shoot name.

"Last used" would be nice, and that's why I use DefaultFolderX ;)

They do have a "start with this folder": Like I said: Export location: Specific folder > Choose the "Start" folder.
Click the preset, click "choose folder" and create the new folder you want (or choose an existing one in the "Start" folder).

LOL ... now that I think about it I think I knew that but for some silly reason didn't want to have to actually export an image into the base folder ... which I could then easily delete. Sometimes we old people just aren't too logical. :-)
