18-55 IS - is the IS working?

I recently traded my old 18-55 kit lens for the newer IS version. Although this is not my primary lens, I thought the increased IQ of the newer model would be nice until it can be replaced by a much better lens. I also thought the IS would be a welcome addition. But...

In a silent environment, I can hear absolutely nothing from this lens. The IS on my other lenses make some sound when operating but this one is silent. Is this normal for this lens? Or should I suspect that the IS doesn't work? The switch is on.

Anyone know how to test to see if the IS is functional?

put your camera in live view...10X zoom...half press the shutter...you should be able to easily see it stabilize

Thanks. That did it. It is working. I'm amazed at how silent the IS in this lens is compared to my other lenses.
