USGP Cyclocross - Sun Prairie, WI

Two days of cyclocross racing. The first weekend of a 4 weekend national series. Had fun with the Tokina 11-16 + flash, or 135L. Yeah, they kinda look alike after a while, but everybody else was working the 70-200mm range, so I wanted to do something different. First one is with the Rokinon 600-1300mm. Enjoy!

Nice work. I see, you are going for that up, close, and personal with the riders. I often notice that there are usually a lot of distractions in a cyclocross course.

Right. There were so many folks out on the course with cameras, I figured the 'rider with crowd background' was well covered, so I got out the 11mm and literally shoved it in their face. Also had fun with that Rokinon at 800mm. I was WAYYY back for those shots. More of a learning thing for me with that 'manual focus only' lens, but I did get some keepers that nobody else got. I'll post a few when I get to editing them. I have about 2,000 pix to sort through over the 2 days.

I did see two guys using some small off camera flash. I've been thinking about that myself. You see in the last shot above, that the sun is peaking through the trees and casting a shadow of the wheels on the ground. I thought that was a cool effect. Next week, there is a night 'cross race and I was contemplating doing some off camera flash myself, but I've run out of time to prepare. Perhaps next year or ?
