Hi There,

I finally got a b&w image that has the "impact" I've been longing for. I converted with the channel mixer, did some heavy curves adjustments to try to deepen the shadows as much as I could without clipping to black, and then sharpened using a find edges edge mask channel with unsharp mask set to luminosity mode. Would love to get some feedback.

-Randy

WHats up with the top left hand corner. I kind of like it, feel it needs a focal point though

If you crop 1/4 off the top (get rid of all that black) you will have a much better image I think.

Is this a question?

WHats up with the top left hand corner? Now it is. Is that a big black cloud? This looks like landing craft assaulting Iwo Jima in the distance.

I'm loving this. Maybe a little bit too dark in the top corner....makes me focus more there but besides that it's magnificent

Thanks Sarah! I fixed the sky problem--I had added a graduated nd in RAW to boost the sky a little, but it didn't take well to my heavy contrast adjustments. I'll either get rid of the nd or mask out that area in Photoshop. I'll post an updated version after I touch it up.

I like the processing, but I agree, I think a crop off the top would lead the eye better. I personally find the black in the sky a little distracting, but that's just IMHO.
