This is the first try with my new EFS 10-22. I really did not want the EFS or a variable aperature lens, but I can tell I am going to be glad to be shooting with this lens and having fun. We had fog this morning and it froze on the trees. I just love the look of the frosted trees in the fog.

Nice photo Doc. I wanna see some 10mm using the Circular Polarizer when you get a chance.

Nice, classic winter scene. I miss seeing snow - a little bit.
I also miss rear-wheel drive with positraction (note the pair of skid marks originating from the area of the stop sign). :)

I suspect that you'll enjoy this lens.

My wife was born and raised in the Des Moines area, and she says this looks pretty typical for this time of year back there. We rarely see snow like this in the Seattle area. Was this photo taken at 10 mm?

I think I am going to like this lens. One thing that did surprise me was there was a correct way to put on the hood. In one direction, at 10mm, you can actually see the hood.

It's hard for some to believe that a hood that wide and shallow could make itself visible, but it can if you have it somehow rotated 90 degrees. 10 mm (16 on FF) is W-I-D-E!

Congrats on a great lens Doc.
I went though the same concerns as you when buying mine... but bought it anyway and am very pleased with it.

One thing, kep yout toes/tripod legsout of shot, remarkably easy for them to stray into shot because it is so wide!!

If in doubt, I shut up...

Gear: 40D, 12-24mm AT-X Pro, 17-85mm, Sigma 150mm Macro Sigma 100-300 F4, 550EX, other stuff that probably helps me on my way.

Yes, that one was at 10mm. Wow that is wide. I live about 200 miles N of DesMoines. I am 4 miles from the Minnesota border.

YEs, if you look at the shot you will see that I accidentally got part of the rear of my pickup in the shot. It is funny, but you actually have to scan back and forth with your eye in the view to see the whole picture.

I am glad I bought it. Better to be shooting now than not. I think that I am going to like this lens.

Yes, I had it rotated 90 degrees at 10mm and you could see it in the picture. That really is wide.

I didn't notice at first but now you point it out... and yes, it is very easy to do.

On a positive side, my best landscapes (and some my best shots) this year were with my 10-22. I think you have nailed the reason, I had to scan the entire frame on every composition to make sure tripod legs, camera bag, filter holder etc were out of the frame. In doing so I made some compositional alterations which improved the images :)

Doc,

Enjoy the 10-22 EFS it is a super fun lens to use. And do be careful, I find all kids of "stray" objects showing up in my pictures...like shots of my toes, etc :-)

As soon as it warms up a litle I am off to DC to take shots of the NAtional Mall...cant wait to capture the Washington Monumnet :-)

Happy New Year,

Jim

Great shot. Here's a pic I took of my dad next to his Hemi-powered Ram Sport.
I really like how it has a mild fishy effect.
