I'm not the best with converting BW's either but I did one recently and another member chimed in and said to make sure BW conversion's dont end up too grey, which is easy to do. To me this looks good though, a nice balance. You might want to try crop some of the empty space out at the bottom and see how it looks.

B&W is not doing the scene justice.

Oh, and they are Canada Geese.

^^^ Agree, I would prefer a scene like that in color.

Well that settles it then! Trash this one for sure!
Actually, the B&W is not bad - just not too interesting.

If it were mine, I'd boost the whites to make it pop. Don't be afraid of clipping the histogram when creating a B&W photo. You can get away with blown highlights and crushed blacks here and there with B&W much more easily than color.

I find the bright spots at the bottom distracting. You could crop them out or might even burn them. Either way, when I put my hand across them, I like the shot much more.

I agree with Vice about cropping. I did a quick crop at 21:9 just at the top of the "dark line" at the lower 1/3 of the original and tightened in the sides just a snidge and although my copy lost too much detail, the image is much more interesting in my opinion. I unfortunately cannot upload from this location...

Too dark and the "geese" loose detail. Color would be better IMO.
