Hi,

is there a device/gadget to automatically trigger the shutter when a bird flies into the frame when I am using a tripod on a close subject entering the frame at speed ? Some sort of motion/light sensor maybe?

There was one trigger I was looking at awhile back that had a sound, lightning, and laser trigger all in one but I can't find it now.

Yes.

I'm pretty sure that a google search for "shutter trigger motion sensor" would trigger some hits.

The MagicLantern (external link) software add-on for some Canon cameras enables the camera to trigger the shutter on the basis of sounds, changes in exposure, or changes in the content of image in the frame.

Oh, sorry. At this point, MagicLantern isn't available on the 7D...but it's in active development.
