First attempt at using StarStaX in anger.... Sadly a failed attempt at detecting Asteroid 2012 DA14 last night... all I got was two aircraft, a patch of low cloud and very very cold toes! Photo has been annotated to highlight the missing Asteroid pass.... :(

Although this has spurred me on to try some Star Trail photos... more to come I'm sure.

There is still a good bit of noise, but this was shot in 28˚ƒ weather which definitely helped.

The worst part actually, is the hot pixels and their removal. That was a bit of a chore! ;)

Yeah I guess that's what I meant. So why not just stack them instead? What was the benefit of doing one exposure?

*that probably sounds a little rude, it's not meant to be.

No worries. 8-)

It's a good question.

I normally DO stack my trail images. In this case I didn't because it was the last shot of the night, I didn't have my intervalometer, and I figured because it was so cold, noise wouldn't be too much of a problem.

It's also a good bit more challenging to do and in the case of the trails themselves, they're different since there's no gap that's present in stacked trails.
