No more primes for a 24-105 on 7D... picking up lens tomorrow

Well, love love love both my 85mm and my 30mm BUT I really need to stick with a zoom with all the kids stuff I do. I want to keep them but for now and me not really wanting to spend more I'm thinking of selling both 30 and 85 to fund the 24-105.

I got a deal lined up to pick up a local 24-105 UZ code everything included and extended warranty from b/h till 2014

I figured for that price I just can't beat it. Unless someone really advises against it.

Sounds like a great deal! I switched from primes to zooms, for kid chasing purposes. I had the 30mm and 85mm together, for a time. Now I have the Sigma 17-50 2.8 OS and the Canon 70-200 f4. I am very happy with the zooms for this purpose!

Okay, here's my warning: F4 on a 7D indoors for chasing kids in low-ish light could get ugly. That said, maybe you're thinking mainly outdoors scenarios?

This from a guy who just today bought a slightly used 35L expressly for my low-light situations.

For $700 you really can't beat that.

Whats faster... 24-105 with it's USM or my old tamron 17-50 type lens.

I'll try it out if it don't work then oh well... sell it and move on

I did something quite similar. Sold my 7d, 30mm 1.4 and soon my 85mm 1.8 and bought a 24-105 for my 5d2.

Yesterday, after shooting with the 24-105 for over a month, I wanted that 50mm perspective and the fun of shooting with primes back again... so I bought a 50L. Its the best money I've ever spent in photography. Amazing lens and I had fun shooting yesterday!

The 24-105 is a very versatile, solid lens but I enjoy primes for the work that goes into getting the shot? If that makes sense?

Well I bought it. Lens was mint mint mint mint. Added it to my signature.

So far only shot some samples at F4 and color/contrast is amazing. Better than my tamron 17-50, I never had this wow factor before. Focus is just as fast as my 85mm 1.8 so I'm very happy. Stabiliztion is something I never had below 70mm.

I can get nice long shots at 24mm haha
