You cannot go wrong with any of these. If you want better high ISO handling, the 7D and 1D3. If you shoot in inclement weather or really low light situations (like almost dark), you would want the 1D3. If you want really large prints or the opportunity to crop your image and still have enough for large prints, the 7D. I have shot soccer, hockey, basketball, baseball, and softball with both a 1D3/1D4 and 7D, and have found neither lacking in any regard for tracking action, and 8fps at 20+ raw burst is pretty good for sports if you shoot that way.

I would never use the terms "blows away", or "hands down", or "no comparison" with any one of these, the differences are not so pronounced to be able to say that.

^---^ Agreed!

I just printed some 20x30 posters for some HS soccer players from my 1D3, and they turned out very nice.

B&H and Adorama both sell used equipment also. I bought my 1D3 used from Adorama, they even gave me a 2 year Mack warranty with it. I would check here first though, lots of good people here.

Not to jump in or interfere with the OP..
Which one requires the least amount of PP? I had a chance to shoot with a 1D3 while in Africa for just one day..Limited elec at camp and battery died on 50D early AM, and shot the 1D right till night fall.
When I got home and started working with the files (all raw) I was blown away by the ease of PP. The 1D out performed my camera in every way from focus speed and AF acuracy to just about everything else, for me 10fps in running animals was a huge plus as well. Even running straight towards me it tracked perfectly. I literally took my lens off (100-400) and put it on and shot away. Going directly from lions running to BIF was a breeze..
I was very interested in the 7D, but from everything I've read it seems PP requires a lot of work. Not looking at this point to replace my 50D either...
