Why are people saying you have to put down the camera to use the joystick? The joystick is actually closer to you thumb and more easily used than a D-pad. I don't think I would ever buy a DSLR without this feature, heck its why I have not considered Nikon, cause their D-pads are crap.

Looking at the back of my 60D right now, I would think having the 60D's d-pad instead of a joystick with a gripped camera would rock. I have trouble reaching the d-pad in portrait orientation, and I would probably have a bad time trying to reach the joystick with my short stubby thumbs!

probably 6D, new sensor better high ISO, possibly better AF, joypad good enough, hdr modes, ISO auto probably works better and uses native 6400 rather than 3200

I hope all of you go out and buy a 6d. That way I can get a better price on a 5dII.

There are some features of the 6d that I would like, mostly the wireless. I think I'm the only one happy about the GPS. BUT, I am not a fan of make is smaller. I don't have girly hands and find many of the cameras difficult to hold on to. My 5Dc with grip is just about right.

Yes, that is available to the 5D2... might even be the default setting... but it is much slower than using the joystick...
and you don't need to look at the back of the camera to do it...

I'll give you that pressing a button and scrolling the front wheel is a tad slower than a joystick. "Much" has to be stretching it, even if just a bit. And my entire point was that I CAN and DO change AF points, almost instantly, without taking my eye away from the viewfinder. I think knowing your camera is 'much' more important here, than which system is in place. I believe I can change AF points on my 60D much faster than I will be able to change them on a brand new 5D3, even with the joystick, until I get used to that system.

Edit: I forgot to address the OP's topic. I am leaning towards the 6D, if only because the controls are nearly identical to those on my 60D. If the AF is at least as good, I'm sold. Those 10 linear outer points got my attention. I can live without 1/8000, and 1/180 sync really is insignificant. GPS and WIFI mean nothing to me. I'll never use them, just like the flippy screen on my 60D.

For landscapes I wouldn't be using high ISO or AF, 5D mk2 is a proven quality landscape camera so I'd go for that over the 6D and spend the saving on a 17-40mm

this what I have precisely done...have ordered the 5d2.. cant wait...once i get to know the camera, I will be getting the 17-40 :)

no need to scroll the front wheel. You can program the camera to assign a focus point to each of the 8 directions on the 8 way d-pad thats located inside the front wheel and the center button is the center focus point. Its even better than a joystick for me atleast. and there is less of a knob sticking out the camera too.

I just tried that set-up. I kinda always knew it was there; just never used it. I am going to leave it that way long enough to get used to it. It initially seems like the best of both worlds. Any point I want, instantly. Auto if I need it, which is almost never. And back to center with the SET button. I just have to see how many times I accidentally move my AF point by hitting the rocker D-button. Thanks for the suggestion.

Edit: Just curious.... Is the 6D set up the same way? I know it does not have the joystick.

5dII wins hands down as it is proven camera with a strong track record.
We all know the 6D will be plagued with light leaking issues, peeling grips, or a bunch of other teething problems ;)

I'd go 6D even right now with the limited information out there. Its just a better camera, period.

I would rather buy the 6D,

everyone seems to think that the 6D is going to be a dud from Canon and that somehow a 4 year old camera is better than the 6D.

I am going to hold judgement, we have only previews at the moment and that mostly from people that have used it at Photokina. Most people have said that the AF works really well. perhaps it's not a 5Dmk3 but then it's not designed as one.

But the simple fact that it's got a new processor, Wifi (was looking at the wifi for the next camera) a new sensor and a new AF are winners in my book.
