Every single picture I've seen with this lens on no matter what camera, 7D to 5D to 1D the photos are just amazing in sharpness.... extremely clear. Is this lens the sharpest canon has because it sure does seem like it to me.

I have the 300mm f2.8 IS Mark I and love it for its sharpness. You cannot go wrong if you are looking for a 300mm prime.

The 300L II, 200L (f2.0) and the 85L arguably round out the top 3 spots for sharpness.

I think the 400/2.8 mkII is now canons sharpest lens but the others above cant be much behind.

I rented a 300mm f/2.8 IS from CPS and was very unimpressed... I am 99% sure though the lens was out of wack though or something, but it just was not sharp as expected. My 70-200 II was sharper cropped in than the 300mm was by itself.

So I didn't have a great experience with it, sadly! :(

I have seen reviews of the 300 2.8 and the 400 2.8. Unfortunately, reviews is as close as I'll get to either of them.

I would say its up there along with the 85mm 1.2 & 135mm f/2. In my experience those are the sharpest lenses I've shot with

Canon 1DX, 1D IV, 50mm 1.2, 24-70 2.8, 85mm 1.8, 400mm 2.8 IS, 24-105, 70-200 2.8 IS, 1.4TCII, 2xTCII
