Nice shot. The Nifty-Fifty 1.4 is a great lens.

Thanks, For the record, she isn't my girl, just the new one I tricked into being a model for me, which is good enough in my book, she works for free =) The more I look though, I notice I cut off the top of her head in this shot, guess that is just the 1.6 crop factor at work, it looked clean in the viewfinder, or maybe I just need more practice.

Actually, the crop factor and viewfinder coverage are two seperate things. I believe my 20D is 95% coverage and the same holds true for the Rebel XT. This should be the same no matter what type of lens in on your camera. The 1.6X crop doesn't change your viewfinder coverage. What you see in your viewfinder should be a 95%(vertically and horizontally) representation, of what your final image will be regardless of what lens you have mounted. That said... this is still a good image. In fact you could almost crop her head down even more and bring the bottom up a little... it is out of focus anyway. Doing that could give you a great 8x10 headshot. I love the DOF of the 50mm lenses... you really did well to keep the whole face in focus and have everything behind it thrown out of focus. And she has great eyes. Way to lock in on them!.

I actually did "lock on" to her eyes, I was having trouble with the AF focusing on the tip of her nose, and the rest of the face would be slightly fuzzy, so I set the AF to the center point, focused on the eye, and then switched to MF and centered her face

Nice shot. If taken in normal household lighting, maybe you need to adjust your whiite balance settings though.

I agree with Wavy. It's a great image but the color doesn't look right.
