Looks like vignetting from a filter or improperly mounted lens hood, too me. Nothing to do with the shutter, though, for sure.

I do believe the OP is concerned about the bright band at the very top of the frame, not the vignette. I do think there is a problem. There is obviously nothing from the lens that will make that bright band across the top.

Yea Jeffrey is right. The band is a sign of shutter bounce of some sort. There was no hood on the fisheye :)

Sucks that it happens on a new camera.

A shutter problem would show regardless of the lens being used though; unless there's something at play there that I'm not familiar with.

Alright, try to remember that a sensor captures the image upside down and backwards.right..?
So, this bright band is actually on the bottom of the sensor..

I have seen similar things from the mirror not being out of the way...but that would show the line on the bottom(since the mirror is on top)..

I thought a shutter would show black/dark bands, not bright, right?

very strange indeed...

Shutter bounce usually has white band - light leak. My 1ds2 had it too. It's a bummer that it happens on a 4 weeks old camera with shutter rated to 400k but sh1t happens

haha.. so we took the 1DX out and shot a bunch of pics with the 16-35 and couldn't see the light leak... so we pulled back the old files and looked and they were all from the 1DS3 and not the 1DX..
Phew!!! so the 1Dx is fine...:)
