Why do you need dual slots? What is the advantage?

Video to one card / Images to another - One higher capacity / faster one lower capacity / slower
RAW to one card / JPEG to another - Good if you're printing on-site (I'm sure there are other reasons)
or
Duplicate images - Provides a backup incase you have a card failure

The obvious, as if if needed to be stated; if your card one fills up and you in the midst of something the camera will trick over to card two. Some people like to shoot onto duel cards as a back up if one fails.

I'm doing a lot of filming at the moment and one simple convenience is the guy i'm working with can scoop up my footage by copying from card to card in camera, saving the hassle of external hard drives and him driving round to my house to pick up what I shot.

Ok, thanks for the explanations. I only shoot static images in RAW, so it is of no use to me. I can see however, it can be useful to others.

Dual card slots with Dual Writes also means instant backups don't forget. Ever have a card fail? It is rare, and it would suck, but it does happen. Having two copies, each on a different card, makes it far less likely to have data lost.

In theory dual slots also gives you the option of alternating writes between two cards. Shoot a long stream of images? First image gets written to Card 1, Second to Card 2, third to Card 1, Fourth to Card 2, etc... With each card on a dedicated write circuit you have basically doubled your write speed, clearing your buffer that much faster. (I have no idea if Canon actually supports this in any existing dual card body)

Personally I really would only want dual cards if they were matched, and I would only buy cameras that support CF, or a new generation of CF like memory. I would use a CF-SD if it was there, but not a feature I would push for.

I will be considering a 7D in the near future, and with the Mark II rumored to be released, taking into account Canon's recent pricing, I will stay very well clear of it. Right now I can get a 7D for $1200 brand spanking new from a local store, very hard to pass this up. I still have time and yet to decide 100%, but I am curious what the Mark II will bring to the table, and more importantly, at what cost...

Invent you feature set, name your own price and you'll be just a accurate as anyone else doing the same. :)

Well said. I am waiting to see what the 7D2 will be, if it even will be a Mark 2. But just going off Canon's recent pricing wonders, I will not be in the market for this camera this or even next year :D

I'm guessing the same. I don't think that this will come out at the same price point that the original came out at. It might get there eventually, but it will take several months at least if the 7DII follows the same model as the 5DMkIII did. What was the MkIII? $3500 when it came out and and now it seems to be inching it's way to $2700~$2800 as the new norm and $2600 as a deal. So, if the 7DII come out at 28% more than the current 7D (same increase as the 5Dii to 5Diii) than that puts the 7Dii at $2100 and if it comes out in January as predicted, by October it should be selling for $1600 (same drop percentage as the MkIII)

I spoke to a Canon rep at Best Buy the other day... asked about the 7DII.

He said the 6D was the replacement for the 7D.

Tried to get more out of him, but I couldn't keep a straight face, so I left.

I doubt he would know anyway, I may just start going round saying Im a Canon rep.

That's what I've been doing this year.

It's almost as much fun as walking though the parking lot at the mall, having a couple of cars following me thinking they are getting a parking place

That works better if you keep stopping at random cars, pretend to look for you keys then walk over to the next isle and watch them race away. :)

Good question and why does it cost about $1000 for the 5DIII?

Because enough people are willing to pay it. This is Canon literally gouging its best customers.
