Does anyone know an app that does this? Googling returns some older info, but I figure someone's got to develop this eventually.

I'd love to have my iPad along when I travel... I dump just the jpgs, so I can browse them later and rate them, email them etc....

Are you loading straight from your camera, a card, or from your PC?
On my Linux machines there is an option in the file browser to "select items matching", wherein you would enter *.JPG and it will select all the jpg's. Then you can drag, copy-paste, or whatever you want to do. Note that .JPG is the way the Canon extension is written so .jpg won't work.
I use this method all the time because I keep the raws and jpg's in separate folders.

Hope this helps a little, or at least gives an idea of things to try.

As far I can I tell, there hasn't been an app that does this yet... I was hoping that someone found one tho. :)

Try PhotoSync
You can transfer photos from your iPad to your computer Dropbox,WebDAV,Skydrive.
There is also a desktop app that will allow you to transfer photos from your computer to you iPads photo album.

I'm not planning on using a computer at all. I would bring the ipad while travelling and dump just the jpgs to it. (for browsing, emailing, etc)

I will check out Photosync tho.

Now correct me if I'm mistaken, but I'm looking at eye-fi cards now for pretty much the same use you are - to take RAW+jpgs, have the RAW left on the card to transfer to PC later using a card reader and have the smaller jpg's beamed to the iPad for instant viewing just like a Large LCD camera screen. I thought this is what happened with the eye-fi app?

It is. I do it with my Android tablet for clients. I can transfer RAW too but JPEGs are much quicker, for obvious reasons.

Did you lose Digital Photo Professional (DPP)? Get it here (external link). Cursing at your worse-than-a-map reflector? Check out this vid! (external link)

Thanks for clearing it up - one other thing I have confusion over - I know the pro cards do this but am not sure of the cheaper models. When away from my home wifi network, can the cheaper cards transmit to the iPad?

http://www.eye.fi/products (external link)

According to the product page, the only differences between the cheaper and Pro are the raw transfer, WiFi geotagging, storage size, and card read/write speed.

What version of the iPad do you have? The iPad 2, 3rd, and 4th gen all support the RAW from my 60D just fine with the camera connector kit.
