Korek Observatory taken in daytime

I know that this is not strictly a celestial image, but it is a photo of an astronomical observatory here in the Kurdistan region of Iraq. This is Korek observatory, which unfortunately has been bombed a few times, and thus is out of commission. Unfortunately, you need permission to go to the area, hence the distant shot from the ground below.

That is a radio telescope on the right of the image.

If you hadn't said that it was Iraq, you would never know it by looking at the picture. It looks as though it could have been taken at any peaceful mountain town.

You need permission to go to the mountain. I just took the photo from the town near it. However, there are restricted areas further up from where I was where photography is prohibited.
