I noticed a few days ago that my 50mm 1.8 II had flares from bright light, i took some shots indoor and i noticed that there were like small ghosts/flares and then i saw that it was from the light.

This evening i was out taking some photos and the flares/ghosts was all over the place so i took off the lens and checked both front and back, cleaned it with a cloth and made sure there was nothing, put it back and it was the same thing. I made sure to remove the uv-filter aswell.. same thing.
I switched to the 18-55mm and dident see any flares from lights at all..

I can't see any dirt or scratches on the lense or the uv-filter.
I've taken a few thousand shots with this lens and i've never seen it before.
What has happend?

Here are two shots taken at the same place with 50mm and 18-55mm.

they're reflections of the light fixtures in the scene.

Some lenses are more prone to light flare than others. A faster shutter speed and smaller aperture will help control the flare.

Well, f-stops was down to 2.2 from 1.8.. and i tried iso from 1000 to 6400 and shutter from 40-120.

I never seen it before on the 50mm.. could something have happend?
At first i thought it was the ISO.. but it can't have anything to do with that.. right?
I'm gonna take a picture right now and post it.. brb

I don't think anything happened with the lens. Take a shot without the light in the picture.

notice how all three lamps are reflected into the exact opposite quadrant of the photo. pretty straight forward.

Yea, then there is no reflection/flares.. kinda obvious.
The problem is that i never had this before.. could the lens be worn? Damaged inside?
Something like that..?

what do you mean there are no reflections? it's reflecting around inside of the lens and then eventually hitting your sensor. you can find tons of examples. I even included a link to a video.

I can't take a normal bright photo indoors with any lightsource anywhere in the lense otherwise it shows flares.. this can't be right?
The other lenses can handle this without flares... the 50mm havent shown flares priory to these past days.

No that is just a part of the design. You finally got an angle or shot that it stood out more.

I don't see what is wrong with these pictures...it's just how lenses work. Some are better than others.

You sound upset?
I know how flares work and how to point the lens in what direction to get the satisfied reflections... now, anywhere i point it with a lightsource there is a reflection, this was not the case before. and this is not the case with the other lenses.. isent that strange? There couldent be a slight possibility that something has happend? I'm just stupid and don't get it.. right?

There's your problem right there. Take the filter off, especially at night.

Well i can't argue with you all.. you are probably all right.. but could someone explain why it's something that shows from any lightsource and has started just now, the 50mm is on my camera 90% of the time, i take photos everyday.. thats why i'm upset right now, because this is not a normal behaviour from my little wonderful nifty fifty.

But hey... no point in argueing, if you all say it's normal, then it's normal.

Thanks for the replies.
