Hi need to know a few things,
1, in live view mode in low light i see a lot of noise specs is this normal? And that is at ISO 100.
2, i tried using mirror lock up but when I take the picture it exposes for like 20 sec when my exposure is 5sec, and then it doesn't show that a picture was taken,
3, is using live view like using mirror lock up?
Thanks;)

#2 i was using a shutter release cable and you still have to enable the camera timer for mirror lock up.

A lot of noise is most likely due to the long exposure. There are settings to reduce it. Experiment with them. Also don't judge too much by what you see on the camera's LCD monitor. Look at the images on your computer, and perhaps do some more noise reduction if needed.

Long exposure noise reduction doubles the length of an exposure. After the initial shot, the camera takes another of the same length of time with the shutter closed which it uses to identify noise so it can subtract it from the first shot.

Live view is done with the mirror up and the shutter open. There is no need to also use mirror lockup when using Live View.

One exception, if you use Quick Focus while in Live View, the shutter closes and the mirror drops back down momentarily while the camera focuses, then the mirror flips back up and the shutter opens. (The contrast detection method of focus used in Live View is slow, but can be very accurate.)

It's not a bad idea to use a cable switch to make the exposure in Live View. That way you don't touch the camera and accidentally bump it.

OK I have a ? on the 5d MarkIII.

I have the 5d Mark II and a firend of mine has the same- He shoots a lot of HDR photos.

Today he told me that on the 5d Mark II he was only able to do HDR on images that were only 2 stops up or down and when he does this on his 60d he is able to use images great than 2 stops up or down.

On the 5d Mark III is there a limit of 2 stops or is it a higher limit like the 60d?

Thank you.

I dont"t mean noise in the final image, the images look great but noise in live view zoomed in and trying to manually focus my EF 100 2.8 IS L at 1.1 Macro,
Thanks.

The 5D III can do up to 7 shots for HDR, and it can do 3 shot in camera HDR.

If theres not much light the data from the sensor will need to be boosted to give you a real time preview on the lcd screen which will create noise.

This sounds normal to me.

My 50D, 7D and 5D2 did this when looking at the LCD during live view in darker situations. Never shows in pictures though as what appears on the LCD.

Thanks, ya also stacking my kenko extension tubes made it worse, I was in my kitchen doing some macro shots and it was very low light, so that was the problem.

Thank you.

Can the 5dMKIII in camera HDR allow you to use shots that are greater than 2 stops up or down of each other ?

According to my friend that does HDR's with his 5dMKII, the 5dMKII does not allow you to do HDR shots in camera that are greater than 2 stops up or down of each other. His 6od on the other hand will allow for it. I told him I would find out which way it is on the 5dMK III.

Thank you.

The 5D II doesn't have in camera HDR you can only bracket the shots for HDR -2 0 +2, the 5D III has HDR in Camera -3 0 +3 or you can bracket your 7 shots.

Might be worth downloading the manual for the 5DMKIII and having a read of it. These questions are all answered in there, even the noise issue in LV.

60D does not allow HDR. Your pal is getting confused with HDR vs bracketing exposures.

As for the HDR...

I always Manually did it.. You are on a tridpod for the most part.. This way is makes it so you can bracket as many shots as you want..

(I use the Exp comp. 0 -1 +1 -2 +2 -3 +3) any more then that requires just some simple math to figure out shutter speeds..
