Disagree. Unless you're at an optimum angle, stadium lights are so high up that more often than not, you'll get a shadow cast similar to high noon. FEC strobe to -1 to -1.5 will be perfect for fill. The first photo was a bit harsh... the rest are right on.

LR4 - white balance, auto exposure and then make my own adjustments, sharpen, Noise reduction

Why shouldn't I use flash? It is needed for Maxpreps or the files will have too much noise. Never had a player or coach complain.

Yes you are right, the first photo has too much flash. I tried a mixture of low iso and flash and high iso with HSS flash. The second way works better for me.
