New to macro, first effort, not so good.

I just got my 100 f/2.8L Macro lens this week. This afternoon I tried it out for the first time. The only thing I could find to shoot was ants. I discovered they are small, fast moving, and hard to shoot. I was lucky to even see them in the view finder. I was pretty disapointed in myself. Tonight I was taking out the trash and found a little friend with and hour glass on her belly. She was slower, larger and stayed still. It's a terrible image, but It gave me just enough encouragement to want to learn and do better. I couldn't get close enough to the ants to get a macro image. Any advice would be very much appreciated. At this question, would it be better to get macro tubes, or hold off on them? -rick

Good start. Ants and bees are hard subjects as they are always active. Try sun basking flies or feeding hover flies and butterflies.
