Very nice, sharp, only a bit over exposed on bright sides and color is inhomogeneous.

Ive tried and tried with my 70-200 2.8
results are crappy at best

You too can take great moon pictures! Try this:

Use your longest lens. I know from your sports pics that you have some.

Set to sharpest aperture, probably about f/8. ISO as low as it'll go, you don't need the noise.

Autofocus will work fine on the moon. Expose from about 1/50 to about 1/500. You'll probably find the best exposure about 1/160 to 1/250 depending on conditions. Might or might not need a tripod.

Then show us what you got.

Ive basically done that
used the old moony 11 rule

still crappy

I have a 500mm f8 mirror
it looks worse

Did you use your 300mm with a 2x TC?
The image to me appears just so very slightly "hot", great detail, must have been good seeing conditions.
