You need more son, less bench. lol

Or, I would consider changing the shot angle so it isn't straight-on.

He looks like a cardboard cutout. Cute kid, bad photo.

Oh I have plenty of those lol. Like the one below, I just like how the bench one came out and wanted to see what others thought.

Wow, amazing blue eyes he has!

As for the original photo, maybe the color version would be better to separate the subject from the background. But regardless, I still think that angle makes for just a so-so photo.

I'm going to go against the majority here on the first one. I like it. I do think the top 3rd is a bit on the dark side, but I like the image/composition.

Your son looks crazy cute in the tie, and the bench and everything being so much bigger makes me say "It's a big world out there". The tie adds something to the affect that even as adults/grown-ups, we're still pretty small in the world.

I really think it tells a story or has a point to it.

^Agree with Kirk - #1 is quite compelling. I wouldn't change anything about it.

I agree - I reckon the first photo is great.

Phew... thanks everyone. I was starting to think I was just biased on that first shot. Just shows, to each their own!

I love #1...very striking...and very different than most child portraits you see. I'd love to see it in color though.

Number one works for me. You will remeber how small he was!
number two....you overdid it on the eyes and saturation. Check out the colour of his 'whites' in his eyes. they should be white not blue.

awwww, what a CUTE kid. I agree about the bench, but then again, it shows how little he is so I think it works.

Nice pics :)

Easy on the vignette; adding it post looks a bit too aggressive here.
