Unfortunately, if the OP was seriously seeking help and not trolling, at this point he's probably feeling a combination of surprise, embarrassment and anger at the tone of many of the responses. Probably won't hear from him again.

Ok the the Troll possibility is there, but what a bunch of A holes the majority of the people in this thread were. When i first started in SLRs i had roll after roll of crap pictures and didn't know why. If I had started out in the digital age coming here for help and got that response, you would never see me again either.

If the OP isn't a troll, it's very unfortunate that he may have become, understandably, discouraged by some of the responses. I've been on POTN for more than 6 years and, it seems to me, the dismissive responses have become much more prevalent than in the past. It might be interesting to do a comparison of the positive/neutral/negative posts by membership date.

It took more than 20 posts before the OP was even welcomed to POTN. It seems that used to be almost de rigueur.

I am hopeful that the OP isn't a troll. I'm even more hopeful that, if Charly1 is not a troll, he comes back and gets the assistance he (or she) is seeking.

Charly1, please come back.

i don't think the guys a troll...but i think a lot of new members don't expect to get responses as soon as they do...either way he hasn't been on the site since the first post was made, so he probably hasn't read any of the posts yet anyways...if he's really looking to improve, i'm sure he'll be back sometime, and will hopefully realize that buying new gear isn't going to solve his problems

Maybe he's been buying new gear, for the last few days! Just funnin', but i highly doubt he'll be back, whether he was serious..or a troll.

This thread will fade into oblivion, like so many others...until someone thread-necro's it in a few years time.

Why troll? It seems more like someone who didn't know what they were doing and had the resources to throw money at a problem they didn't understand. I've seen it before in photography and especially in my other passion, high end audio. I've seen people who haven't a clue what they are doing sell say a $10k amplifier for a $20k amplifier on a whim and be dissatisfied with the result. No different than this case.

I've never been dis-satisfied with mine... but I must say that PP does bring out the inherent beauty of many shots.

There is some differences here, Mark. Listening to music doesn't take talent or skill/technique. Anyone can plop down $50k-$100k and get someone to install a kick-arse system, play with the acoustics of the listening room, and have some awesome sound....even a putz. ;) With a great set of speakers (= the lens), even a top-of-the-line Yamaha amp/receiver (= the body) can sound sweet. Now.. i'd prefer a Bryston (not interested in Mark Levinson, Krell, etc. though i haven't heard one in over 15 years), but i digress. :p

Got to disagree with you on this one. To really appreciate the advantages of a true high end system it requires the development of sophisticated listening skills. The average listener of mid fi systems doesn't have and generally isn't interested in developing those listening skills, Their goal is primarily to have nice background music, or loud music with lots of thumping bass. High end audio is more about appreciating, what is to many people, subtleties that enhance the listening experience.

Its not unlike folks with inexpensive 15X zoom cameras believing they can get similar results to a DSLR with an expensive lens. They often find it amusing that someone would spend $2300 on a 70-200mm zoom when their camera goes from 22.5mm to 810mm. It's really about expectations. They are unsophisticated users and can't "see" the advantages of better cameras and lenses. And like selecting the right camera equipment dependent upon your shooting requirements and preferences, a top notch sound system must be carefully selected so there is a synergy, not only between the components, but with your listening room and you personal expectations. That takes a lot of knowledge and experience to get it right. Similar to the OP, those who are very well healed and just buy the most expensive sound gear out there usually never realize the full potential of a great system. Room set up alone can takes from hours to months of experimentation to get it right. My experience on this subject is a result of almost 40 years as an audiophile, including time as an audio salesman and consultant. The similarities to photography are closer than you think.

I have a 600D. Every time I feel like I really need to get a 7D (and believe me, the urge hits me at least a couple of times a day :D), I do one of two things:

1. I go to flickr and type in 550d or 600d in the search box and look at the photos that come up.
2. I go and look at the 600D (and earlier) photo thread on the camera forum here on POTN.

Then I feel suitably shamed and decided that I need to learn how to use my equipment first before lusting after the next best thing.

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

I have to disagree with your disagree. :):) Hearing it and caring about it are two different animals. Everyone will hear it, it takes no skill to hear. All you need is ears. But only a very small percentage of the snootiest audiophiles will care.
