I have to disagree with your disagree. :):) Hearing it and caring about it are two different animals. Everyone will hear it, it takes no skill to hear. All you need is ears. But only a very small percentage of the snootiest audiophiles will care.

It also takes no skill to see, all you need is eyes, yet many with super zoom point and shoots can't readily "see" the superiority and advantages of high end cameras and lenses. They are perfectly satisfied with what they have. They don't "see" the softness at the edges, they don't "see" the barrel distortion, they don't "see" the CA. They don't "see" the effects of DOF or contrast changes. They don't see sharpness or subtle exposure issues. The don't see composition issues. They don't see these things until they become interested in taking the next step, and gain experience and learn what they're looking at. Audio is no different.

Since you use the word snootiest with regard to audio, I' have to assume you have never experienced multiple and extensive listening sessions with true high end systems, set up properly in an appropriately configured space with a properly set up listening position and top notch source material. Or perhaps, like point and shoot owners, you don't really care that much. But like photography its about experiencing and appreciating the subtle and not so subtle differences. I've heard owners of point and shoots use similar pejoratives describing those that own high end dSLR equipment.

In any discipline, true appreciation comes from passionate interest and education. One must learn to hear to really appreciate high end audio in the same way that one must learn to see to appreciate the advantages of top notch camera gear. Non aficionados generally do not appreciate the subtleties that make high end cameras equipment, high end wines, high end watches, or high end audio equipment, special. It is not snooty or elitist, I am very far from wealthy and my $25K audio system (relatively modest in true high end terms) was chosen over time and set up carefully based on 40 years of listening experience, not on a whim. i spent a few thousand more and months of experimentation and research setting up and tuning my system and listening room optimally. It all comes down to learning about, recognizing, and appreciating the subtle refinements that separate the run of the mill from the truly exceptional.

Photography is a relatively new experience for me as my equipment below indicates. Its a new passion, a new journey into education and enlightenment.

OP never came back. Probably a joke or, as someone else mentioned, a newbie who feels hurt by some of the insensitive responses.

I hope two things come from this:

1. If it's a troll, that stinks. This is the best website ever with few trolls (if any). I hope it stays that way.

2. If the OP is real, all of you who made smug remarks should re-think how you respond to newbies. If you think the OP is stupid, then why say it? Just go to a different thread.

Thank you. bw!

i don't see any smug remarks...or anyone saying the op is stupid...some may have been straight to the point of pointing out that the problem with the photos most likely lies within him...but i don't see that as a bad thing...

I agree. If the OP is so sensitive to have been upset by the feedback given in this thread he needs to man up and grow a set.

It's probably the settings and post editing with your pictures. If anything, the upgrade to a 7d wouldn't really improve your photos that greatly, just the faster shutter speed and better build quality. You maybe want to go into the 5D line for a noticeable quality difference.

Dre, your first comment on this thread was quite frankly, rude. It may be 100% accurate, but would you use the same delivery if someone you knew say a cousin or close friend came to you personally and asked you for help?

With a name of Charly1, why would you just assume the OP would have a set to grow in the first place? It's a name for both boys and girls.

it was direct, i'm not saying it was or wasn't rude(i think that depends on how the person takes it, which is hard to determine online)...i just felt like all the other posts before hand were beating around the bush...

and i would use the same delivery for friends/family...but friendsfamily know how i am...

either way i don't think the op ran off because he was offended by any of the posts...he posted at 21:52, and that was the last time he was on the site as well

I'm starting to think the same. So the new question is if RiverCity9500 = Charly1

I doubt its the same person. I think Charly1's post shows he is struggling a bit with English as a second language, Not so for RiverCity9500.

Very true. With decent lenses and a little knowledge on how to use it, anyone should be able to get good results from this body. The benefits of more expensive bodies with the same 18mp sensor is really about upgraded features. With a good lens, and a reasonable amount of non tricky light, the results from the 550D can be the equal of any of Canon's crop bodies.

Doubt it's the camera or the lenses. Most likely the photographer.

You should post a picture, get critique, then try to take a better picture and post that. Wash, rinse, repeat.
