I was out last night to capture some auroras, Spaceweather, NOAA, and IMSAL all indicated that it was going to be a god night for the northern lights. I set up in a field just north of our acreage near Saskatoon, and waited. The sky was already glowing but the aurora was subdued at first...then BAM!!! WOW pretty much sums it up! At one point the entire sky all the way to the ground was dancing with color! I was out for about 5 hours and took about 300 pictures, but I spent a great deal of time enjoying the light show. One of the best nights I have had shooting auroras.

It really picked up after 10pm, and I was lucky that the clouds stayed away! It was equal to the 24 Oct 2011 geomagnetic storm, the purplish reds were soooo cool!

I am putting together a time lapse from that night...it looks pretty cool so far! I found this shot, and the camera settings should give you an idea of how bright it was, I had a tough time getting the right exposures as it would get super bright and then change, then back to super bright! I have never been able to shoot night shots at ISO 320, F2.8, @ 6 Seconds...it was pretty cool!
