Looks like I paid $65, which I was very happy with of course. It was more on eBay.

Thanks. Maybe I'll wait and see if they'll have more.

The eBay auction I linked to before does give an option for BEST OFFER. I may try that as well.

Thanks for the pics. Does the battery compartment have the enforced steel plate?

Hmmmm. I don't think so. Can you describe what you mean, though?

Ok, I think I understand what you're talking about. This photo (external link) of the Canon version shows that the floor of the battery compartment is a steel plate. That is not the case with the Meike.

Do we know if the Canon version has the tripod socket somehow attached to that steel plate? If so that would certainly seem to make it more robust.

EDIT: Interesting...the photos of the Pixel grip show that it does have the steel floor. Although truthfully, I can't remember ever using the tripod socket in my previous grip. But just yesterday I was looking at the Carry Speed straps. Decisions, decisions.

Even though the Pixel grip has the steel floor, how sturdy is it?

I use sling straps and Spider Holster and they both use the tripod socket and hangs from it. I can get the OEM grip for $246 after discount and damn tax.

From this pic, looks like the DSTE grip has the steel plate in the battery compartment

Good catch.

The link I provided before included 2 batteries for $78.99 or best offer for grip and 2 batteries. Here is the link again - http://www.ebay.com …_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 (external link)

I just found another listing that is grip only for $58.99 or best offer - http://www.ebay.com …_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 (external link)

$1 more and you get a card reader - http://www.ebay.com …Grips&hash=item2a237ea6ec (external link)

Its back on amazon. Takes a while for it to process, ship and arrive.

Here's the inside of the Meike if you're interested. The white plastic thingie inside is where the tripod socket is. I think that I'll keep it until I want to use a strap that connects to the tripod socket. I don't want to trust a camera this pricey to a little plastic thingie like that.

Does anyone have any photos of the inside of the Canon, Pixel, or DSTE? I'd like to see that the tripod socket is secured to that metal plate like I'm hoping it is. Thanks.

I tried looking for pictures of the inside for the OEM grip. This image is kind of hard to see but I think the square is metal

Has anyone used DSTE grips in the past? I just got my email for my eBay bucks and would love to purchase a grip for my new 5D III.

Thanks, bandit. I'm really hoping the Pixel or DSTE is similar to the Canon. I'm hoping one of the Pixel owners can provide a shot of the inside. Maybe I'll hop over to that Pixel thread and ask.

I've been searching the web and the only thing I find are sites selling it. no reviews or impressions.

However, my uncle does have a DSTE battery for his grip on his D7000. He says that it won't display battery information. I don't know how it is with the Canon. I even tried finding the manufacturer's website and nothing.

Here is a shot of the inside of the Pixel. It certainly appears that the tripod socked is secured to the metal plate.
