What is the Bokeh effect on the canon 70-200 F4 L lens like, especially compared to the 75-300 kit lens - I know it will be different - but just to what extent, and will the depth of field change much, even though the max aperture is only 0.5 less?

Body: Canon 450D Gripped
Lenses: Canon 70-200 F4 L, Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6, 1.4x Tele Converter

Max Magnification for the 70-200 is 0.21x.... The 75-300 (non IS?) is 0.25x at 300mm... So you should actually gain more blur I believe with the 75-300, but the quality of the blur (bokeh) should be superior on the 70-200 due to more aperture blades and superior optics I would assume.

I am not good with the field of views though between 200mm and 300mm and relating aperture and all that. I am sure others will though! :D

What, exactly, are you asking?

There is no such thing as a "bokeh effect". The word "bokeh" refers to the aesthetic qualities of out-of-focus blur in an image.

Depth of field is a function of distance, focal length, aperture, and how much the in-camera image has to be magnified to fill a standard sized print (the circle of confusion factor). Two 200mm lenses used on the same format cameras with their apertures set to the same value and used at the same distances from the elements in the scene will provide the same depth of field.

The qualities of the out-of-focus blur in the background can vary from lens to lens because of a variety of differences including the number of and shape of the blades in the iris.
