this question has probably been asked a million times before. I am using Lightroom 4.1, spiderpro3 elite for monitor calibration..but I am not getting good print match between monitor and prints...

Previously I was using LR 3.6 with spider Pro and had not problems...I have checked all my settings and everything appears to be the same as i had on the LR 3.6 . Printer is epson stylus photo 1400. Help!!!!!!! I am wasting paper trying to find the right settings..

when i pick the color profile I am picking the most recent monitor calibration profile.

Where are you "picking the most recent monitor calibration profile"? In Lightroom? If so: That's what's wrong.

Choose the proper profile for your printer/ink/paper in LR.

Spot on. You really need to soft proof with your printer/ink/paper combo. I'll then create a virtual copy where I tweak the colors saturation, contrast, etc. so the end result is what I intended. Also, if you're doing your own printing, make sure your printer driver is not applying its own color management on top of what Lightroom is applying. All of this is probably in the link Rene provided.

thanks for the suggestions. I have tried all the above, actually those settings are what i am used to..i.e. paper/printer profile, not monitor profile...i chose the monitor profile to see if it helped, it didnt. I did not have this problem until i switched to LR 4 and the spider pro elite... will keep playing with it.

Is ink degradation a possibility? Printer does not get used alot.

When i soft proof the photo in LR4 there is not much of a change from what i see on screen

Ink degradation sounds a bit unlikely, however you might well have some clogged nozzles or possibly a cartridge that isn't seated properly, so I'd check that.
