I'm not too sure what the intent was. It looks like a limb, against a faraway background, with fill flash, and no particular focal point.

Sorry you had to freeze for that one, but keep trying.

Not working for me, sorry. Just not anything interesting captured. Now if there had been a bird on the limb or a single leaf still attached or even ice crystals reflecting the sun...

Something that just caught my eye, nothing more.

I was about 100 foot from it. No flash used! The light was hitting it like that.

The way it glowed is what caught my eye

Oddly, I didn't see a single bird the whole time I was out there! Guess the 40 mph winds were too much for them.

I understand what you're saying and this is something that I always find interersting in how incredible the human eye/brain is. I still see things that my eye/brain is saying, "Wow, how cool, that would make a great picture." but the limitations of film/sensors never seem to live up to it. That's where learning to see the way the camera see's comes in. Understanding the limitations of exposure/contrast, framing etc. etc. a never ending process so it seems.

Nice attempt, but you missed a crucial part of ever photograph: a focal point! In every image you set up, you should check to see that there is a single part, or more than one that are interesting and different, that will draw the viewer's eye. With this photo, although it is obvious that the tree is the subjet, the viewer's eye just wanders across it, looking for something that stands out and finding nothing special. Now if you liked the way that this particular tree "stood out", you should have conveyed that interest by taking a wider shot wherein the tree stood out from the rest of the trees on the same focal plane as it. This way you could have showed how this one tree was interesting. Next time you go out to take photos, keep this in mind. Hope my comments were helpful!

Very helpful :)

I didn't back off so I could miss that powerline Duke Power had the foresight to put smack in the middle of my picture  I knew including that would chop it into a top and bottom thing.

Oh, no, I am not upset at all!

It is just frustrating to get what what I see or have in my head out. I paint and draw some too, not much tho as I can't get what I see in my head out and it irritates me until I just give up....

I am so new to this world and overwhelmed and I want to do so much....

Right,ok,we are on the right track then, phew.

Now,thats where i believe you are wrong,it shouldn`t irritate you, instead, you should try and see what you are doing wrong and try to find a different aproach, try different things, but never give up.
Concetrate on 1 thing if you have to,for instance landscape, try things, keep your ears and eyes open, listen to criticism from others and ask for harsh(sometimes)critisism.
I`m a great believer that you learn from your mistakes, but ofcours someone has to point them out to you if you cann`t see them yourself.
Believe it or not,i have learned alot more from bad C&C than good one.

I am so new to this world and overwhelmed and I want to do so much....

Ha ha ha,:lol:, don`t we all?
I will only tell you one thing...

Good things come to those who wait.;)

Be good and always patient.
Regards Dimitri

Yeah, I understand I am too impatient but if I am not seeing results on something, I get all frustrated and just loose hope. I have taken some incredible pics tho :) I just want more. I know it takes practice to gain the skills. I want to take some classes to but everything here is either closed to everybody but design students or 35mm. Yeah, I understand why but it still knocks me out.

Some of the best feedback I have gotten on my writing was harsh, almost cold and brutal. But it makes me think and that is what works in the long run......

Thanks!
J

hit or miss sometimes, i'm going through a lot of that myself. don't get aggravated. I know it doesn't help much to say that. But keep in mind that photography is an art form, there are rarely a right and a wrong way to approach something. what one person hates another person will consider gold. this doesn't work for me because there's no focal point and there isn't much of a composition. but you saw something and made an attempt. that's what counts. Great things can come from trying. Good luck, hope to see more from you. Sari.
