I'm always amazed at the monuments we erect in remeberence of those who passed away, and sometimes I can't help but wonder why.

Nice shot and interesting question. I'm sure there are many answers, among them guilt, self-aggrandizement, love, respect, etc. These days, I believe that fewer and fewer of us are interested in that permanent resting place with any sort of marker.

Thanks Stan. So true what you say. Some of the monuments I've seen are truly works of art. Maybe others could post some that they have seen here. I know some people feel funny about taking photos in cemeteries, I on the other hand think it shows respect. They can be very peaceful and beautiful places.

I hope to also leave whatever organs behind and functioning in someone else if possible :) Any yeah, but still I think if I were not dead, I'd rather be cremated then buried. :) At least it would be quicker. :)

[IMAGE TOO SMALL, NOT RENDERED INLINE]

I do now
thanks Kenny,
it's lovely

:(

' Pile the bodies high at Austerlitz and Waterloo.
Shovel them under and let me work—
I am the grass; I cover all.

And pile them high at Gettysburg
And pile them high at Ypres and Verdun.
Shovel them under and let me work.
Two years, ten years, and passengers ask the conductor:
What place is this?
Where are we now?

I am the grass.
Let me work '

I have always loved these lines (below)

from 'Carve Her Name With Pride' - with Virginia Mckenna, Jack Warner, Paul Scofield,
The code-poem used in the film was the real code poem used by Violette Szabo while she was sending messages back from occupied France. The poem was written by 'Leo Marks' (qv) who was a cryptographer for SOE and often used poems like this for agents to use.

'The life that I have is all that I have,
The life that I have is yours.
The love that I have of the life that I have
Is yours and yours and yours.

A sleep I shall have, A rest I shall have
Yet death will be but a pause.
For the peace of my years In the long green grass
Will be yours and yours and yours '

:)

I certainly don't understand that either. Blow my ashes into the wind and then go have a picture party in my remembrance. :)

Nice shot.

I've seen what your eyes can do with a camera. Whomever gets them will be lucky indeed.

I plan on sticking around until my body parts are useless. If, for some reason I check out earlier than expected, my body is donated to anyone brave enough to take it.

I'm afraid I've already reached the point where my parts are worthless. They aren't working too well for me, no reason to expect they would help anyone else. Actually, I'm looking for young, attractive donors.

Thanks all for the comments, I think next to photographing barns, cemeteries are also a favorite of mine. Course the way my bones are working lately it would be nice if I could find some on level ground.
Marie and Kenny thank you for adding the wonderful poems to this thread.:)
