1st Attempt at Newborn

Here is my first attempt of my son Colin at 2 weeks old.

I know I still have a way to go.

Many moms would not allow their baby to be placed in that position, regardless of whether they can move or not. I think it's a mom thing.
As for the photo, there is no consideration for lighting or composition. look at Frank's link and look around here. keep at it.

The first thing I noticed is it's a nice trunk. It's also the largest subject in the image.

Closer, get lots closer. To your baby.

BTW - flash won't bother the baby. Light him up.

Cute kid, congrats, you have you a little subject to practice on for a while! Newborns are hard, comments have been made above that are good. Practice and lighting.

Thank you for all the comments!! I dont have any studio lighting, tried using my flash with natural light from windows but the sun went in - any suggestions?

You're welcome. Always glad to help. Of course, you could always try replacing the sun in the window with a 30X40" white art board to bounce in the excess bleed light from your flash.
