AFternoon ladies. So I chose this morning to go and explore a fairly local deer park called Knole. it was lovely and frosty when I left home - got to Knole, parked, walked into the park and it started raining…. might as well stay and explore I thought…. not many deer about until of course it was pouring with rain… then I nearly got squished by two silly bucks scrapping with each other and chasing in and out of the woods… so I got quite a few shots of them and their ladies, and then I got lost! Had to phone a friend and try to explain where I was and he directed me back to the gate! Next time I"m taking a big ball of string!

the light was rubbish and it was raining but just about managed to save some of these.

Penelope -

So glad you weren't mauled by deer, or forever lost in the forest. Those are absolutely stunning deer photos. I do deer photos, but never had anything quite as stunning as those.

Lovely deers, Penel. I like #2 especially because of the very pretty setting and the natural framing. But all are so nice. And you even managed a shot of a Green Woodpecker! Just don't get lost again. That part made me laugh. :)

Beautiful images Penel! And great story. You need to carry a GPS and make your car the home point. Well, glad you made it out alive and now you have a good story with photographs!

Great job, Penel. I can so relate to getting lost! My kids are excellent map readers because of my lack of a sense of direction. ;)

Thanks everyone - Joayne you are right, I need a GPS. I wonder if there's one on my phone - or an app? Just for a few minutes I really did think I could be there for hours - thankfully there was a phone signal and my friend was not in a work meeting or something! my heart was rather racing when the bucks started racing out of the woods - one minute the woods were empty and the next they were all around me!
This afternoon I had a rare breed dog in the studio - an Entelbucher… will show you pics tomorrow when I've had a proper look at them.
Think I will sleep well tonight!

I think it is also a female thing. Men are supposedly much better at orienting themselves wherever they are. Me, I am capable of shopping in a street full of fashion shops, going into one shop, look at some clothes, maybe try something on, leave the shop again and instead of moving on to the next shop going back to where I came from. It usually takes about 5 or 6 shops before I start thinking: wait a minute...

LOL..I can relate to that very well. My husband still cannot grasp how I cannot grasp direction. He seems to think it is something I can learn. I tell ya, though, I cannot. I have probably put 30% more miles on my cars over the years simply from getting lost so much. :o

LOL!!! Yes, I can totally relate to that too.
The first time I was in Israel, many years ago, my watch needed repairing. I found a little shop in Haifa I think it was, but when it was time to pick up the watch I couldn't find the shop again. And I never did. :o :D

Congratulations! I retired July 1st of this year, at the age of 59.5. I, too, could have waited, but we had a great pension plan that allowed for early retirement. It is wonderful - lots of time for hobbies, grandkids and every thing else. I now pick my 8 year old granddaughter up from school each day.

A new chapter is about to begin in your life. I hope you immensely enjoy it.

I just hit the 58 1/2 mark; always planned on working until I was 60 but 2 years ago, new owners bought out the private hospital I was working at & decided to let most of us older nurses go (we were the highest paid). Of course I planned on getting another job but my husband thought it might be a good idea for me to retire as I suffer from a lot of back problems (3 herniated discs) & since my employer agreed on paying my unemployment for 2+ years, I decided to accept it. Then I decided to start a small photography business just to have a little something to keep me out of trouble & so far it has worked out pretty well.
Here are a couple of my recent High School Seniors:

Lovely work, Penel! Maybe next week I can run up the mountain & see what I can find; I am hoping we get some snow on the Giant Redwoods.

Fantastic shots! They are gorgeous - you are quite talented with lighting, with a creative eye.
And so glad an early retirement has worked so well for you.

Men are supposedly much better at orienting themselves wherever they are.

My husband and I are an exception. When we're in an unfamiliar place, I can more easily figure out how to get back to a starting point. It must have to do with creating an approximate map in one's head. Wherever I am, I want to know which way the cardinal directions are. That probably came from my father, who oriented himself the same way.

I have to marvel at birds. They have one additional dimension to navigate through. Not just which tree their nest is in, but how high in the tree the nest is.
