I want to see the out takes. ;)

Penel, that is a nice link.
I'm sure you would take photos like if you too had a fixer, people carrying your gear
People helping with the set up for the shots etc. those aren't the chance photos most of us take while traveling.

I have to tell you that almost every shot I took of that kid came out great; so photogenic. He didn't fuss once. We talked about smudging him with a little flour for some shots but Tristan was fussing & dying to get his paws on the whisk so we ended up calling it good.

Life is hard...but I just take it one photograph at a time.

Good evening everyone!
Loving the puppy shots Penel!!! So precious!!
Great shot of Tristan and Santa Maureen! He's so cute!!
Welcome to the ladies thread Karley! Wonderful shots you shared! A precious Angel you have there!
I haven't been out shooting lately as it's been too stinking cold. It hit -1F on my way home from work tonight! We're due for a significant snow storm here on Saturday night and Sunday. Maybe it'll warm up when it snows and I can get over to the park in town and get some nice night shots of the Christmas lights and tree!
We had our Christmas get together for work last night in Bangor and we're having the family party on the 14th. Need to get the yankee swap gifts and make a spaghetti pie for that one.
I really also need to get the guitar out and start practicing for a Christmas program on the 22nd.I was specifically asked to do Silent Night and O Holy Night. I sing Silent night in German for the first verse. Really am looking forward to this as it's been a couple of years since I've done this. I will take the camera with me on that night as well and see if I can get a few shots.
I hope everyone is well!

blinkeredFilly- That's cold! I was born and raised in ND so i know all about that....I currently live in FL. It is still weird not having snow or cold for Christmas and am a little envious of those getting to shoot snowflake pictures..haha.

gundogs- Thank you and wonderful shots!

Maureen- Looks like a little chef in the making, beautiful picture!

Hey gals!

I've been absent again. My camera hasn't been working alot lately. :(

Yesterday I went over to a friend to get some Christmas shots from their little baby boy.
Unfortunatly I was not happy with the result when I got home.

The screen of my camera is not to be trusted!

I used my 430 ex flash with umbrella and window light on the other side. But most of the pictures aren't sharp enough :(
Also when I upped the iso, it's so noisy.

Argh I'm not good with portrait shooting.

I'm a bit emberrassed to give the pictures to my friend.

can you ask to do it again? what lens were you using? tell us what settings you had the camera on maybe we can help?

I've been playing around with more Christmas shots.

A great shot&card, but good grief, Penel! "a skilled assassin?" How about a skilled mouse hunter?

Hehe lovely cat ;)

Well I think I know part of the problem.

I used the 50mm (1.8) and my 17-55mm.
I did use f/1.8 and I guess that was a bad thing to do. Though on most pics I have more than 1/250. Iso was around 400ish.
My speedlight was triggered by the on camera flash and shot trough umbrella on the left side, the ride side was natural light, I'll post an example pic tonight. Don't have access now.

I tried some pics in the dark with christmas lights and used iso 2000, horrible horrible noise :(

Problem is that if I would retry it would be next weekend and she wants to send christmas cards with the picture.

thx!

I'd say you needed either f8 or possibly more, ISO 250, shutter speed 200. If I use my 50mm 1.4 and have it on say f4 I have to cut out a lot of the light from the flash or it's way over exposed. The shutter speed shouldn't have been the issue really as you were using a flash.

Oh wow f8 :p

Hehe, well there are a few good ones so, she'll be able to get the christmas card. But I promised to do another shoot in the near future...

I really should take more pictures, perhaps selfies. I need to get a white sheet :p

I did get myself a Danbo, that little thing is soo cute.

I took this shot a while ago. I had just bought the Pallas Magenta 28mm f/2.8 (an old vintage lens) and was sitting on a bench at Dam Square, fiddling with the focus ring when this lady walked by. There was no time to do anything, so I just pointed the camera and took the shot. Such a pity that the focus is off, especially on her face, but I like this shot so much that I'm posting it anyway.

I worked nights at the hospital for 27 years. Better pay, less visitor issues, & it allowed me to see my kids everyday, get them to school & function as a family. I am still a night owl & stay up until 0100 or so every night. Retirement is great, though.:D

Levina, interesting shot. The woman may be carrying a magazine, but the photo on it looks like herself when younger.
