Thanks Jo!
You know, I already bought 1D III once (two years ago almost to the day!) and returned it because it was so heavy and I had so much pain after using it. I then bought the 5D classic and loved the clean files I got with that. Shot half a year with it but the AF and especially the shutter lag was making me miss too many shots. So then I bought the 1D II N. It cost so little money that I thought "what the hell..."
I more or less got used to the weight, and also with the strap wrapped around my wrist it's pretty much okay now, not too much pain. And now here I am again, with another mark III.
But very much looking forward to shooting with it. It will do significantly better at high iso than the mark II and that is the main reason I wanted to upgrade. Colours are better too. Really excited. :)

Speaking of cameras, my 5DIII went to Canon service today. Yesterday when I was shooting Christmas snaps I noticed the shutter sounded weird, then it got clunky. Since the camera is still under warranty I decided I better send it in before things got any worse......
I hope I can survive a week without it..... :(

Life is hard...but I just take it one photograph at a time.

I just did the strangest thing today: I bought a new camera!
New to me, that is. A 1D mark III. From my shop. It's in absolute mint condition and it comes with all the original stuff as well as a 12 month warranty. :)
The shop was closed of course so I bought it online. Hopefully it'll be here on Saturday, although with all the extra mail sent for the holidays it may take longer.

I've already put out a couple of ads for the 1D II N on some local photography forums.
Exciting!

That is exciting. I used to own the original 1D and I loved it but when my autoimmune disease kicked up, it was too heavy for me to hold for very long. Skip is selling our 100-400mm lens & says he is going to buy me a 2nd 5DIII body so we shall see if that comes to fruition. I am not going to fight it :)

Ah, sorry about your 5DIII, Maureen! But good thing it is still under Canon warranty. And how nice of Skip to be buying you another 5DIII. Now that's what I call a good husband! :)

I'm still excited about my own purchase. I know it's an older model again, but I can't afford a mark IV as they are still around 2500 euro. But the mark III will be a significant step up from the II N. So I am really happy especially since it will do better with higher iso speeds, something I so very much need. I swear, we haven't had day here in over a week!

Ooh new goodies, that will be fun Levina.

Dreadful weather here again, grey, windy, and wet.

Levina... I love, love, love the sound of that shutter firing off..:lol:
I've got mine on a tripod with a 300mm2.8 and the 1.4 extender on it.. just waiting for the Kestrels. I actually saw one of them checking out their favorite palm tree for nesting this week! The babies should fledge in April. I think by then I will be cleared to lift some weight..

LOL. I just looked up your gear list, Jo, and my, you have an entire collection of cameras! Do you keep all your bodies? Never sold anything?
I'm one to talk though. I never sell anything either, but it's not from trying, I just can't get anything sold. And I'm not asking too much. I think I would make a really poor car salesman... I have the 1D II N up for sale in three different places now and have not had a response yet. Maybe I should put an ad here too, for the Europeans and the Brits. Hmmm, that's an idea. :D

Anyway, yes, the 1D III does sing nicely with that shutter depressed, doesn't it? :) Track&trace says it will be delivered between 8-10 tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed it will.

Nice to be waiting for Kestrels though. They're such pretty birds. Is this near your house, Jo, in your yard? I have to wait for Spring before I can ride out again to the countryside to see them. And city birds are off the menu too at the moment. No light! Like Penel in the UK we too are having dreadful weather. But I will need a bit of light at least this weekend, to try out the new camera! Grrr...

Levina..The
kestrels are just out of lens reach in a neighbors yard. The best thing is that the youngsters have come every year into the yard adjacent to mine. Multiple palms growing together, some tall some shorter. It's nice for them for short flights and the parents often feed them there. All prime spots for me.

Yes I keep my gear. Older gear has all been refurbished and packed into a Pelican case. I have given cameras to friends who may need one. You need one of them? It would be on the way ...

I only got interested in my gear this week. I've been dusting, organizing and wondering what some of my gadgets do :p. All batteries need charging (so bad to run them all the way down ). At least I have some interest again!

Oh, and that gear list should include the new 70D, LOL

Wow, you have a prime seat. That is so cool! Be sure to post shots here when you have them.

You give cameras away? Wow again. That is so generous. Can I have the 5D III please? Totally kidding of course. Besides, I'm difficult in accepting gifts over 50 bucks or so! Unless it's from family. Them I love to rip off as much as I can.:lol:

You bought a 70D? Good grief! But good for you. And after all, you had a bad year with your back and the Africa trip canceled, you need some consolation. Isn't buying new gear great? I'm relatively poor so I can't buy a lot and usually take a long time to decide, but I am always looking at gear and dreaming about this and that and that is already wonderful! :D

It's good to see you active again, Jo. I'm very much looking forward to your Kestrels.

You are so nice but I am going to tough it out. Optimistically I hope to have mine back by next Friday & I do have a 7D ( although I can't remember when I last used it. Going up for sale soon).

Levina!:lol: I don't give away my present line up! Though some of those bodies still prove to provide great photographs. I use some of the older bodies for experiments.. where things might get dirty, or.. whatever

You can have the 20D, 30D or 50D (I never got along with that camera  always gave me weird colors.. Then I found out it was me all along! :eyes )

You can always PM me, and get next day delivery... (I think I'll choose FedEx for a carrier!)
You've been given security clearance by several people I know!
