I find it more than amusing that Jon & Chet sneak in to the ladies' thread but I will be polite & refrain from saying what I really want to

Levina and I didn't say exactly what we wanted to, either . . .

Now I am enjoying a bowl of butternut squash/pumpkin soup & wondering what to do tomorrow. . . .

My camera comes home tomorrow along with my new Canon Pixma Pro 100 printer.

You'll get your camera tomorrow, and you're wondering what to do?

I definitely wanted the implications to be there for the guys..... butt out ;) LOL!

My camera came & I was right; the shutter was malfunctioning as well as the noise imaging sensor so they fixed both. Tomorrow I might run up the mountain & look for something to shoot; beautiful weather here at 65 degrees but the still air is causing a huge smog cloud to sit over our valley & the recommendation is to stay indoors because it is unhealthy to breathe. But the mountains are clean so I think that is the place to escape for a day.

So Mo.. Refurbished 5D3, new Epson printer, new 5D3
Things are looking up for the new year

Smog in your neck of Cali? Or Tule fog?
Seems like it should be fairly clear.
It's so dry here I can hear the air crackling!

You head on up those mountains and show us some scenery. Please?

It is smog; very unhealthy. We haven't had enough rain to even form the Tule fog this winter so it is definitely weird here. Normally we have foggy, damp winters but not this year.

I didn't buy a new Epson printer tho; my Epson died & I bought a Canon Pixma Pro 100. Should be here next Monday or Tuesday. 46 degrees in Sequoia National Park but clean air so hopefully I will get some decent photos. I will look for bobcats & deer. Maybe even a stray bear since there is almost no snow....

joayne, the Central Valley has become chronically smoggy since I lived there. It used to have clean air. Now it has many more people, and driving is still the way most of them get around. There's also discharge from farm machinery. You can check a satellite map and see how dark some areas are.

I've never known the Central Valley to be pollution free. The chemicals, dust and machinery have always been a problem in my lifetime. We have pollution problems here in the Coachella Valley.. It leaks through from LA and Riverside. So here in SoCal it is the driest year since we started keeping track of rainfall. Whoopee :(

Hi all and Happy New Year. Not been around for a while - got a new horse and Christmas happened, mother's 80th birthday and a few days in the New Forest to recover from all of the above! Plus the absolutely foul weather we are having here - if they ever say in the next decade we have a drought I know they will be lying. It only stops raining for the pleasure of starting again!

So sorry to hear of your loss Maureen.

As usual great shots all round, far too many to comment on.

A couple from me from the holidays.

First when i was driving to collect my son. The first half of the drive was complete fog. Then it started clearing. I was just going past a lay-by and saw this small valley with a combination of sun and the last bits of fog in a dip.

then a couple from the three hours when it stopped raining to freeze for a while!

Love the frosty leaves, Emma & nice shots all around!

We spent the day amongst the Giant Sequoias; one of the bonuses of living here in Central California. As we drove up the mountain we were really appalled at the layers of dirt & smog over the valley; just YUCK! It was a lovely 50 degrees, not much snow but lots of tourists; we couldn't even find a parking place to hike to the General Sherman Tree so we moved on to Grant's Grove where there is a great walking path through many giant trees. I wish I could capture the feeling they give you in person but to get a good idea of their size, realize that many of the surrounding trees are 70 foot high Lodge pole Pines & quite large in their own right.

One my favorite "bunches" of trees:

Mo, Great job on the General Grant and the "bunches"!
It is really tough to try to capture the size and beauty of these giants!

Sorry to hear that you are also inundated with tourist and "snowbirds"
I can understand! Population here will nearly double soon :(

Look at the trunk of the tree on your left; it is a full grown 'normal' tree :) The roots of the Giant Sequoia are just below the surface of the soil & the trees are fenced off but a few idiots always walk up to them for pictures. I always give them a good scolding ;)

Those are some trees, Maureen. They're somehow pre-historic! But they put us, puny humans, nicely in our place... :)

Emma, loved your wintery shots, especially the frost ones.

Maureen, do you print all your images yourself?

Lovely frosty shots Emma, and how exciting you got a horse! that'll keep you busy - and poor LOL!

Maureen - beautiful sequoia shots - I've been there, many moons ago - we drove through one with a big hole in it? I remember it was a very small track to get there in our rental car and no one else was around at all, a bit bizarre really.

Still dreadful weather here, did three hours of walking with dog training clients this morning so I definitely don't need to go out in this again today!
