Thank you SO much for that Maureen! I'm so new to this whole photography thing (as I said, I've only REALLY been doing it for three months now. Prior to that I went out once before to shoot landscapes) so I have NO ego at all and am constantly questioning my ability. I would love to share some of my photos here but I don't know how. I tried to post a picture before using a link from my FAA page but it didn't post for some reason. I'll try it again and see if it works.

Welcome Amber,
And a big Thank You to you and your family for all that you sacrifice for the rest of us.
Your gallery has some nice pictures. The first page is my favorite. The Black Beauty one would be something I would put on my wall (if I knew where to put it).

Maureen,
What a wonderful picture of that little Kestrel. We once found one in my game room. Must have got in through the fireplace? Luckily we were able to catch it and let it go unharmed. We have Kestrels everywhere here. My problem is I can't get close enough to get a nice sharp picture. I'm working on it though.

That owl picture was the first time I have ever seen one. We have been living on this ranch for 10 years now and this was a first. Hopefully not the last. My husband sees Burrowing Owls all the time. I caught one with my camera one day thinking it was a Kestrel only to find a very out of focus owl on my screen.
The birds here are not used to people and they make sure to stay far away.

Thank you EBG. The amazing thing about "The Black Beauty" is that I actually went to that location to shoot the very first picture in my gallery, "Overgrown". I turned around and saw that acrossed the street were those horse in the field-one of which was "Black Beauty". :)

I don't know how your site works. I have my pictures on Flickr. If I click on one of my pictures it takes me to a seperate page. Above my picture is a share button. If I click on that it gives me a BBCode I can copy and paste. It has to be no larger than 1024x1024. You can also attach from your computer using the paperclip in the advanced reply setting. You have to get your picture down to 150KB and no larger than 1024x1024. Sometimes I can't get my file size small enough for that.
Not sure any of that will be of use to you.

Yeah, I'm not sure if I can get my image down that size either but let me see. No, my files are way too big.

What do you process with? I use DPP. Have not dug into my LR or Elements yet. I convert and save a new file. I resize to 1024 on the longest end and drop the quality down to 1. It works for most of my pictures but I don't edit heavy because I don't know how to edit yet.
Or you could put whatever pictures you want to show here on a site like Flickr. Flickr is free unless you upgrade to pro which you wouldn't need to do.

You could also post a question on the forum to see if anyone else uses your site. Someone may be able to tell you how to post from your site.

Definitely give LR a whirl if you get a chance it's made my workflow pretty efficient but I go from LR and then into Photoshop~

Of course I never used DPP so I'm unsure of what that is..haha

I go from LR to PS too. I shoot in RAW but have my images converted to a DNG on download into LR. From there I move them into PS (which I JUST got last week-I'd never used it before) and do most of my editing in mini-bridge and then export the finished edit as a JPEG. I don't want to compress my images because I need them high resolution when I upload them to the site for sale. I might try copying the the picture and then compressing it in another folder although I really don't need MORE stuff on my computer. I'll have to look in to how to share from my site or maybe open a flickr account. Do they compress your images for you?

Quite a different method you got going there ! I shoot in RAW 99% of the time (the 1% is for work since my work computer is from 2009 and cannot read RAW files). I upload them via LR as typical RAWs and edit them in LR and then export them as PSD files into PS and then save a edit with layers version and a jpg for viewing separately (a little bit lower quality). I think on Flickr they don't compress your images which is why I so prefer Flickr over my FB account when it comes to showing clients what I'm capable of vs. the tattered down version on FB. Just looking at your website nothing looks like it's compressed or are your photos too good even if it gets compressed!?

Oh another thing is ..if you wanna compress lets say a photo that's at 5000 x 4000 or whatever to a smaller jpg and you have like 100 of them, you can run a script in photoshop that will resize / compress them without you having to manually go through all 100 of them. Something neat I learned and made my processing faster when I don't have time to edit them and just need to upload them. It even converts RAWs to JPGs pretty quickly too. I mostly do event photography when I get the call so sometimes I can't even get to sit down to do work.

I think flickr does compress the size. When you share from flickr the largest option to share is 1024 anyways. I think LR has a save for web that helps downsize the file, but that does put an extra file on your computer.
I had to purchase a new computer this year to handle my pictures. I never learned how to use LR because my old computer didn't have enough room to run the program. Now I have the space on my new computer but need to find the time to learn the program. I find I would rather be running around in the hills taking pictures than reading my LR book at the computer. My DSL is too slow to watch utube videos.
This winter my plan is to learn LR and Elements when it's cold and rainy outside.

Well there's a option that says VIEW ALL SIZES on Flickr that lets you view the full res but when sharing you can opt it down for forum viewing and etc. which is why it usually caps at 1024 or whatever it is.

I didn't read a book about LR either, so I'm pretty much in the dark about a ton of things, I just know the basics to get by. LOL
