Levina..he/she has those "rubber lips" that the fledglings have. You know, when the beak is still hardening in the corners..

Good observation, Joayne.
I believe Mitch (Canonloader) coined the term "rubber lips".
And I do believe the little one has them. But it is way too soon in the season!

That was me :p
Rachel McKenna has some nice tips on processing..
Sadly I missed yesterdays broadcast due to having fun....

oops sorry Joayne! I didn't see any of today's broadcast yet, and am too tired to watch now!
Levina those wren shots are just adorable. Really lovely.

When I was at the framers yesterday (getting a charcoal drawing of Gracie framed, I digress!) she told me about a very local and highly improbable place that she had seen hares boxing.... several years ago now, but I am wondering whether to get up very early tomorrow and drive over there and have a look. It really is in the middle of a suburb, but a huge field with a wood nearby - could they really still live in an area like that? I wonder....

Either Mitch (Canonloader) or Steve (Nighthound)
It's a great description and is truly a good way to notice juveniles :p

^ Yes, I know, but my point is that these Wrens usually breed from mid April to July. So how can I be seeing fledglings now? The same with House Sparrows. They breed between April and August. Yet I'm sure I saw a fledgling last week!

Climate change has thrown off some natural calendars that were more stable until the past few years.

Life is full of surprises! :) Wonderful photos, Levina. I love them in their natural habitats.

We went back to the zoo today & took Nicholas (almost 5 yrs) to see the tigers. Plus we fed the giraffes & I fed the manta rays. Then we went to the bird show & a giant Eagle Owl flew right over my head and brushed me with his wings. We all got a laugh out of that; I could hear him coming from behind me (so awesome to hear that big swoosh of his wings) but I didn't expect the wings to mess up my hair :) Pretty cool. Skip took some pictures but I did not bring my camera this trip so I could focus on Nicholas & not worry about the equipment.

Life is hard...but I just take it one photograph at a time.

I went back and realized one of my favorite pictures was taken with my XTi and 100mm Macro. I'm pretty sure I never processed it other then camera settings and converting to jpeg. Last night I tweeked it a little in LR.
What do you think? Does the grasshopper need to be a little darker?

The first one.

I like the darker one, Stina. Nice catch! Here is Mr. Eagle Owl who clipped me in the head today; photos courtesy of my husband. :)

Tell your hubby nice pics, Maureen. :)
Do you like the whole picture darker or the grasshopper?

Tell Skip that he got some really pretty Owl shots,
but I would rather see the one of you with an owl in your hair! ;)

I had the same thing happen to me and a raptor show..
A beautiful barn owl.. I was shooting at the time and couldn't believe what I was seeing..
Big 'Ol Owl in my viewfinder.. the is felt the flap of the wing on my head!
All the shots are OOF.. the 100-400 could not compensate for the speed of the owl.
