Thanks, Maureen. I was trying to give the impression of the guy in the front waiting to catch the calf when he is roped. To be honest, most of my action shots are pretty unspectacular, so I was trying to switch it up to see what I could get. Once the team roping starts up again for real I should get better action shots. It helps when no one else is in the way, and they are going a lot faster. I'll keep trying different things though. I still have a ton of pictures to go through. It's great to get different opinions. Keep it coming, my goal is to get better!

I know how you feel; this photography stuff is tricky. My husband says he would rather be lucky than good. I am afraid I am rather inclined to agree with him. I would like to try a rodeo so this spring, when the rodeos are thick around here, I am going to go to one and see about catching some action shots. I do okay with babies and kids but action is hard for me. But I also like to challenge myself, step out of my comfort zone & try to do the stuff that intimidates me. I hope it keeps me young in spirit anyways.

Life is hard...but I just take it one photograph at a time.

I'll have to try the "enter" thing a few times although I downloaded the images from my computer instead of a flickr account so I don't think I can do that. Anyway, we have the largest bull riding event in the US (I guess probably anywhere. Do they ride bulls anywhere else in the world?) here in Del Rio. Amazing since it's apparently the only thing we DO have. I want to go to that in April (I think) and the rodeo they have here in July. However, my only zoom is the 70-200L so I don't have nearly the range that you ladies do.

First I love the colors. I agree with Penel that it is hard to figure out what the first guy is doing.

I love the 2nd shot but my focus point would have been on the roping of the calf with the cowboy in the foreground out of focus. Since the interest is really on the action, that , in my opinion, is what should be the main focus of the photo.
Now I talk like I know what I am doing, but maybe I don't so please take my words with a spoonful of salt :) I am going to try to do photos of Little League (first game) this Saturday & hoepfully I will get some decent shots to share. Action is tough.

I kinda like these two pics....but I guess because I used to shoe horses, I knew what the cowboy was doing in the first pic,not so much as heating shoes up, but maybe keeping the fire going for the brands. As far as the second one goes, I think I like it the way it is. With the focus point on the person instead of the action, I feel it puts me in the shoes of the person doing the waiting and gives my imagination the freedom to picture what is coming at me, how quickly etc.....does that make sense?

Blinkeredfilly - Thanks for your input as well. It helps to get different opinions. I appreciate it.

Fitness Freak - The enter thing works for pictures on the computer. When you attach the picture hit the drop down arrow next to the paper clip and click on one of the attachments. Then click at the end of the [ATTACH] and hit enter at least once or twice. Go back into the drop down arrow and click on the next attachment. This will seperate them. That's if you can understand my poor directions. :)

Looks like I attached a picture. I downloaded one to help me explain myself, then tried to delete it. It's still there? Oh well. My son with my dads dog.:)

I can't believe how big he is getting. He only lives 3/4 of a mile from me so when dad heads home from work, I walk Aaron home & take Charlie for a walk too. We were talking about how in 7 1/2 years he will be a legal adult and then he says to me; "Then i am going to blow my parents off & come live with you, Mima." LOL, he is my boy for sure. I love having a close relationship with him.

Today I spent 2 hours with Tristan who will be 3 months in another hour. My daughter asked me if I would cut the back of his hair since it was down past his shoulders. Well, we pondered the best way to cut a wobbly baby's hair & finally I told her to put him on the breast. Then I cut that side of his hair. Then she switched him to the other breast and I finished the job. She & I were giggling ourselves silly & neither of us were sure it was even.:lol: But she was going to give him a bath this evening so I told her to check it when it was wet and either she could even it up or I will do it when I have him next week. Such is life around here. I am excited to finally have some Tristan time to myself but I do feel sorry for my daughter who is dreading going back to work. She waited so long to have a baby (age 38) & it is killing her that she has to lrave him. :( On the other side of it, she knows he will be well taken care of by 2 doting grandmothers and well loved.

Hey Ladies! It's been forever since I visted with you ladies. I've actually been following this thread off and on for about a week and a half. I was having a crazy editing issue so I had to ask the forum for help figuring out where the problem was. Thankfully the people on here are awesome! Anyway, I'm loving the pictures you ladies are posting! So many beautiful birds, grandkids, whales, etc. Penelope, those are some gorgeous dogs! I think you should get one. ;-)a EastBayGirl, personally, I love the colors in your pictures but I love contrast in my photos and vibrant colors. So, I've been out taking lots of pictures lately. Me and another photog try to go out every week and take pictures which is a major challenge since it's so ugly here and Texas is so stinkin' huge but I can only travel an hour from home (since I have to go while the kids are in school during the weekday) and there's really NOTHING to photograph within 60 miles. So, I've had to be very creative and network everywhere I go but I've met some amazing people. Just a few miles from my house is the woman that owned the main wolf used in the movie, "Dances With Wolves". That wolf is no longer alive but she still has two full-blooded wolves that my daughter and I were able to meet. I've included a picture of my daughter with the male. He absolutely LOVED Sam (my daughter) and she is now his favorite playmate. Two weeks ago I met a local author (although I didn't know he was an author until after I met him) and went out to his property to take some pictures. I wasn't expecting a whole lot but I ended up having a blast! Me and my friend got to take tons of cool pictures and hang out with him, 2 archaeologist, a chemistry professor, and an IT tech who were doing research on some of the Native American rock art in this gentleman's caves. Amazing! He lives in the town of Langtry, TX which has a population of 17...seriously. Today my friend and I were supposed to go to the next town over which is 15 miles away and has a population of 7. I cannot even make this stuff up. However, she was sick so we'll have to wait 'til next week. Anyway, I won't bore you ladies with anymore but I just wanted to drop by, say hi, and let you all know I that I'm still alive..if you all even remember me now.

Hello, I don't remember you but I'm very new to this thread. I love the wolf pic, and think it's amazing that people keep wolves as pets. Surely they must be bred from a more "steady domesticated" strain?

me too Maureen, challenging myself to do different types of shots is the thing that keeps me learning. My "thing" is animals, but I do like to keep trying other subjects.

Nope Maureen, 100% pure wolves. She has a special license to keep them (actually, a few months ago they were under house arrest due to a misunderstanding and the local law not being able to find the owner's license on file) and was contacted by authorities to rescue them. The female was originally from Yellowstone and the male I'm not sure where he was from originally. I was keeping a close eye on him playing with my daughter so I didn't hear all that the owner was telling my friend about their past.

Here's the female. She's full grown so she has her adult coat whereas the male is only a year old so he doesn't have his adult coat yet.

The female, "Paws". She looks mean here but she's actually extremely sweet-she's just daintily eating an egg.

After doing some research on real wolves, I was a little nervous about letting my daughter be around them until I found a wolf reserve out in Colorado that allows people to interact with a real wolf pack. Anway, we ended up having so much fun and these two were just so sweet. They have both been raised with people since they were babies though so I felt a little better. We just had to keep in mind that they are wolves, not dogs and so they interact and react differently than domesticated dogs do.

Hi ladies! So sorry that I haven't been here in a while, but work/life doesn't allow me to get on here too often. I do try to read the posts though as I can to keep caught up. The wolf photos are amazing!! I love reading too what's going on with all of you; it's just refreshing to have some down-time and read your experiences and adventures and see the grand-kids, babies, rodeos, bottles, and other interesting cool stuff you ladies are shooting. I will be heading up to a private lake house in Georgia this weekend and although it's going to be cold, I am hoping to capture some beautiful shots. I can't wait! I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and stay warm (if it's cold in your area). Happy shooting!

I'd rather be shooting!

Hi Ladies,
Well I got my Think Tank Retrospective 7 today, and the darn thing is bigger then I wanted. BUMMER!! Looks like I'm returning it and going to try the #5. I sure hope I like it ? Being 5"3 makes most bags seem HUGE on me! I was so hoping to use it while I was away, looks like I'm stuck with my backpack. Just a little rant before I take off for the weekend. :(

Hope you have a great weekend scribbin.

That's too bad, Stina. I have a 6 million dollar Crumpler that I love for medium room and a Lowepro smaller bag that holds a camera & one lens that I also love. But my backpack goes on plane trips and my big Pelican case goes on all road trips.
